Guest guest
It's now been 8 days since I began my " calorie " /fat/insulin restriction. It's been remarkably easy (hardly even hungry or tempted so far) and my average blood sugars are surely the best they've been in 33 years. If it doesn't get any harder, I think I could do this indefinitely. Instead of taking 35 units of " lantis " long lasting insulin and 4-5 shots of 10 to 18 units humalog regular throughout the day, I'm down to 25 units lantis and 1 shot of 8-10 units humalog in the evening; sometimes with a small supplemental shot if my sugar goes above 170. My blood sugar was averaging about 190 before this. My 15 day average (which still has 7 days of pre-CR readings factored in) is down to 148 and falling. About half my readings now are from 60 to 100 mg/dl (previously, I would have had to eat any time I had a sugar that low as it usually meant I was minutes away from another low blood sugar episode). However, great as these readings are compared to what they were, they aren't near good enough. I still have way too many " excursions " above 200 which I have to knock down with supplemental insulin. A lot of this problem is because the lantis is gradually taking my sugar too low when I don't eat and I'm having small snacks (e.g., an apple) throughout the day to counter it. Today I'm going to reduce my lantis a bit more -- down to 20 units -- and see if that helps or hurts (having lantis trend my sugar down is good to the extent it keeps me from having to take extra shots and to help me get my sugar down in the morning after the " dawn phenomena " ). I've got to stop the glycosilation of my body proteins. Diet alone isn't going to be enough. I know that; I don't think I'm being unreasonable. I suspect my doctor's will think I'm being unreasonable, though, when they notice my weight is dropping. Diabetes is the proof of CRon, I think. I'VE BEGUN PLAYING WITH WALFORDS DIET PROGRAM. It seems kind of a pain, having to create a food-list every day which I then need to bring in to the day's log. Also, the list of foods is really lame for a vegan/healh food oriented person. Are most CRon-folk really just junk-food-junkies on starvation diets? You'd think the FIRST things which would go if you need to be nutrient dense and have a healh focus, would be most of the pre-packaged crapola foods. Does anyone have a database of more healthful (hopefully more vegan friendly) foods for this program? How many of you use this program? Do you share food nutrition and recipe databases? I need to get a few scales for weighing food! Should I just get an electronic office scale from Staples? -- P.S. You CR people are an interesting and extremely friendly/helpful bunch. Thanks, all! -Steve
