Guest guest
Hi Caren, I had my revision surgery for flatback 10 1/2 years ago, with Dr. Boachie. He is one of the top docs in this field. He is an excellent surgeon and a wonderful human being. If I had to do it over agian, I would, and I would have Dr. Boachie do it. Guest guest
Thanks Bonnie. I'm going to see Dr. Boachie again on May 29 and I'm seeing Dr. Scwab on May 2. I'll keep the list posted. Guest guest
Hi Caren, I also had the late Dr. Henry Doherty do spinal surgery on me at HSS. He did not do the original spinal fusion, but he removed a very severe rib hump in 1983. At that time, he told me that there wasn't anything else that they could do for me and my progressing scoliosis. He never mentioned " flatback " then, but also thankfully he did know the limits of his expertise and did " no harm " to me. It was eight years ago that Dr. Boachie worked his magic on me. I would do the revision again if I needed it, and I wouldn't hesitate to have Dr. Boachie do it. He is a wonderful human being and an extremely modest but gifted surgeon. I wish you the best of luck in finding the right surgeon for yourself. --- ckoslov <ckoslov@...> wrote: > Thank you Melinda, Sharon and for the warm > welcome. Guest guest
Hi Pat, I would think that revision surgery wasn't around in 1983 when you went to see Dr. Doherty. When I went to Dr. Errico last week, he told me that now is a good time to go thru with revision surgery because they now have the operation down pat. I'm therefore assuming that it's relatively new. Guest guest
Caren, I read your post and wanted to say that I just had revision surgery with Dr. Errico (original HR with Dr. Doherty in 1975) and he is a wonderful surgeon. Any questions, please let me know. I'm sorry to hear she's not comfortable. Cortlynn has been real sleepy as well and a little fussy too. I've been worried about her hurtingwell. Unfortunately she is too young to tell me how she's feeling. I have given her Tylenol and it does seem to help somewhat. I know I'm still exhausted from all we went through this week so I'm sure our little ones are too. I'm glad you all made it home safe. Our ride wasn't so good....she fussed most the time but I was so thankful to be home so we can get back in the routine. Well I hope she starts feeling better soon and you too!!Caren> > > Hi everyone! > > > > My Layla, 20 months old, had her 1st Mehta cast applied yesterday by Dr.P in Greenville, SC. She's actually said that cast hurts Also, she's taking more naps than usual, which I figured was from the trip and stress of it all (I could use a nap myself!)...> > > > Anyway, I was just wondering if any other families have experienced this? Guest guest
It's going pretty good so far. Cortlynn has figured out this thing isn't coming off so I guess I better get used to it! She seemed a little down the first week but she's back to crawling and pulling up to stand now. My biggest challenge has been the diapering thing. With her being only 8 months old she still has the loose stools to contend with. Her cast is so snug at the bottom I haven't been able to tuck diaper underneath it like suggested. Other than that pretty well I'd say. Our next casting is not until September which will be a total of 10 weeks. I can't imagine this fitting her up until that point but the Doctor knows best and has had much more experience with this than I have. Thanks for checking in! Guest guest
Caren,Kylie has always had loose stools and so I have a few diapering tips (some from this list some we just kinda did trial and error) if you can get some kind of tape into the cast, it helps to be able to remove it and freshen it if u have an accident. The higher up u can get it inside the back of the cast, the more you have protected. We started with duct tape but the tape is so strong if it ever stuck to our daughters back she screamed. This is where even many pantyliners "shingled" around the cast (tuck one end inside the cast and bring it up and around and then duct tape the outside of the cast covering and holding the pantyliners in place. When we had accidents we just started over. We also went down a size in diapers and saw improvement in leakage. I was able to roll the diaper in at the back and create a lip without tucking the diaper into her cast. We saw a bit of her bum but if there was a leak, it was on clothes not IN the cast. Guest guest
Great tips Becky Thanks!! I actually went today and bought smaller size diaper thinking it might help....sounds strange but in fact it fit much better under the cast. I will definetly try some of your other suggestions! Thanks again! Caren > > > > > > > Hi everyone! > > > > > > > > My Layla, 20 months old, had her 1st Mehta cast applied yesterday by > > Dr.P in Greenville, SC. Guest guest
Caren,Glad to help!!! I'm sure u could also put in a pantyliner lengthwise along the back, but I just felt better having more protection in the back and I did a couple of strips at a time to not get Kylie frustrated. Kushies brand training covers are also supposed to be great. Doug (Kylies dad) asked me today why we ever went to the bigger size diapers since the smaller ones work lol!!:)BeckyBecky Stuckless, Sign Language InterpreterDoug Reimneitz519.818.3203From: "caren339@..." <caren339@...>Sender: infantile scoliosis treatment Date: Sun, 10 Jul 2011 02:27:45 -0000<infantile scoliosis treatment >Reply infantile scoliosis treatment Subject: Re: Caren Great tips Becky Thanks!!
