Guest guest
I've found melatonin to work extremely well - fall asleep relatively quickly and wake up not feeling groggy or hazy (at least no more than usual!). For information specifically about melatonin, there is this from the Life Extension Fdn site (which I know not everyone trusts, but I tend to more often than not): " Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland, which is located beneath the brain. Melatonin is a highly potent antioxidant, which has been described as the pacemaker of the aging clock in humans. It is released every night as part of our time-dependent biorhythms to help induce sleep and recuperation from fatigue. Melatonin has been shown to have anticancer effects. In animal studies in Italy, melatonin and transplants of pineal gland tissue from young animals extended the lifespan of old animals, however the mice used in these studies had suboptimal lifespans. The Life Extension Foundation is funding a study to further assess the effects of melatonin on aging and lifespan in mice. " ....and a link from 1995 http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag95/95dec2f.htm about melatonin improving immune system. Those I know who have tried it find it to be very effective for sleep. Time will tell about the other stuff. -Jo > -----Original Message----- > From: Tim Tyler [mailto:tt2333@...] > Sent: Friday, October 11, 2002 9:48 AM > > Subject: [ ] Re: Hypnosis/sleep > > > --- Francesca Skelton <fskelton@e...> wrote: > > > Tim: is this for real? Guest guest
I take Melatonin and a capsule of Valerian Root. Together they seem to work very well. The typical 3mg tablet of melatonin is a very large dose so I looked around and found a bottle of 1mg tablets. ----- Original Message ----- From: " Jo " <johastings@...> < > Sent: Friday, October 11, 2002 9:07 AM Subject: RE: [ ] Re: Hypnosis/sleep & melatonin > I've found melatonin to work extremely well - fall asleep relatively quickly > and wake up not feeling groggy or hazy (at least no more than usual!). Guest guest
Of course I've tried melatonin and all the other herbal remedies under the sun; but I can't say I've tried them in combination. So I'll try this. In addition I'm trying to exercise more vigorously. I'll report back on the success or failure of this...... Thanks for all the suggestions. on 10/11/2002 10:24 AM, Hipp at @... wrote: > I take Melatonin and a capsule of Valerian Root. Guest guest
While I'm a big advocate of exercise, vigorous activity late in the day can be a stimulant and make it harder to sleep... I play basketball sometimes till 8:30pm and after particularly hard sessions can have trouble getting to sleep even hours later... the impact on my sleep varies from session to session so I would expect mild exercise with adequate time to unwind should be fine.
