Guest guest
Steve: It sounds from your post (and from what I recall) that you've only been on CR about a month. You've lost 8 pounds. That is a significant amount. The weight should come off slowly, not quickly, for optimum health. I'm wondering if you or or any of the other diabetics would like to help with a new file with advice for people who are diabetic or have other special problems. Then when someone new in that category joins the list, we could point them to the file for easy retrieva. on 2/17/2003 2:39 AM, s_rudek <s_rudek@...> at s_rudek@... wrote: > I significantly cut back my calories and then my > insulin just over a month ago (I think Jan 13). .....(snipped) I don't know exactly what I weighed at the beginning (I know, not very scientific) but I would have guessed approximately 170 (too much tummy fat, though only obvious when I'd slouch). As of last Wednesday, the gym scale said I was 162 -- so the weight loss seems to have been much less than I would have expected

It is possible my beginning weight and my weight loss were a little less; the last time I recall checking my weight was some months ago and I *think* it was no about 168. I don't actually know what my starting weight was on Jan 13, when I started the restricted diet. I guessed at 170 because it was after the holidays and it felt I had probably picked up more weight. Maybe I'll be able to find a more reliable/recent weight in my medical records, but I don't know. In any case, I probably have not been eating as many calories as I should per optimal CRON and I appreciate being reminded of the importance of that; I will do my best to heed the advice. My main target for the first month was to have my blood panel come in so well that I could eliminate cholesterol concerns and, possibly, get the diabetes staff intrigued enough to help me explore " extreme " options. I achieved that for now and being super restrictive for that short period was part of the achievement. If I can get DW or some other program working properly that will help, of course. Is DW really as good as it gets? > > I'm wondering if you or or any of the other diabetics would like to > help with a new file with advice for people who are diabetic or have other > special problems. I'd hope to share whatever I can. However, every diabetic is relatively unique, even when we are grouped as having the same " category " of diabetes. But what I find out about glycosilation should be of interest and value to everyone, diabetic or not. My first, second, and fiftieth priority is arrestng and reverging glycosilation damage and getting my legs to heal properly so I don't have to worry about having my legs amputated before I die. I just read (on the crsociety list) that CRON will actually slow down wound healing. If so it probably won't even make sense for me to follow a true CRON diet. If my body won't hold out past sixty, taking extreme measures to lengthen my " maximum theoretical " lifespan to 120 doesn't make much sense. For the moment, though, I'm delighted that I have whooped the cholesterol problem and that by when I only eat one meal a day I get to take far fewer shots and have relatively long periods when my blood sugar is near normal. I suspect I may need to become a bona fide *expert* on glycosilation. I'm even thinking I may need to go back to college to refresh my biochemistry knowledge so I can properly sort through all the leads. Most of what passes for science in the field of nutrition is pretty low quality but there are doubtless some real gems. Thanks again for all the interest and support. It really does mean a lot to me right now.
