Guest guest Posted January 5, 2003 Report Share Posted January 5, 2003 It is interesting that prunes work, at least in part, the same way an overdose of the polyols do (i.e. xylitol, erythritol, etc. group of sugars - see http://www.caloriecontrol.org/redcal.html). Prunes do have fiber, but also have sugars related to these others, which are not absorbed well from the intestine, and consequently remain there and hold more water in the stool.
