Editing posts and subject lines, and 'lost' subscribers

PLEASE edit your posts when you are replying to another post. There

is rarely a case where you need to include the entire post when

you're replying, especially if it's a long one. And they get hard to

read when there are multiple replies.

Also make the subject line meaningful - digest numbers are not

helpful, nor should you include an entire digest when you're replying

to one message. There was a recent one of these where the reply was

15 lines at the end of about 570 lines of an entire digest - which

didn't even include the message the reply was directed to, which was

pasted in at the end. I almost dismissed it as an accidental punch

of the reply button. I suspect the sender was using the digest to

pull in the address, and forgot to delete the digest. It was sent at

5 AM, which might have something to do with it....

This message is being sent as a 'special notice', largely because of

a discussion on another list regarding no-mail subscribers who have

forgotten they are even subscribed to the list. If you receive this

message and no longer have an interest in the list, you may wish to

unsubscribe. (This is a much gentler approach than the one the other

list took - which was to switch everyone to 'individual messages',

and ticked off everyone who was reading the messages on the website

or had chosen digest form.)
