Arlene,

If you want your soap more translucent try hot process. Also, if your soap

is not shiny, try using canola oil in your recipe. It makes the soap

glossy.

To find instructions for hot process go to the links section of Kathy

's site. www.silverlink.net/~timer. I recommend crockpot method. It

is super easy.

Hi Marcia,

You asked me about evening primrose oil and flaxseed, which my naturopath

has me taking. I had some problems associated with my Graves' which most of

constipated, severely. This was all new to me, and my regular doctor said

that the endocrine system is very tricky and can cause you to go either way.

So, the Ev. primrose and flaxseed were for this problem. Most of you may

not want to use this, if you have the other problem...

Hope this helps,

Hi Kim,

Sending lots of prayers from the west coast for your mama!

Also, re: constipation

Yes, because of this problem, we had all thought perhaps I was hypo before my blood tests, though I had so many of the other hyper symptoms. I had no idea at the time what thyroid storm was, so when I went through this (in the middle of a camping trip), I thought for sure I had had a heart attack. But the constipation has continued for more than 10 months now.

The naturopath has me on this for the constipation:

buffered C (has magnesium in it also)

acidophilis

Evening primrose

flaxseed

a homeopathic called pulsatilla 30c

and a daily " pack " consisting of a heated piece of flannel with castor oil on top, and hot water bottle for 45 minutes a day while I meditate.

After being constipated for 10 months, I have been becoming more normal lately. With all the above procedures, however, it was mostly getting to " normal " levels of thyroid which made the most difference. When I went hypo, I went back to being constipated again. My sister with Graves' had the same response in her body, as I have had, and she was also constipated, instead of the other way...

Hope this helps you,

Arlene

Pam, you are definitely bad! I would wish Graves' on some of my doctors

too.

Actually, I have had this Graves' now for over a year and a half, but I

didn't go to the allopathic physician for 11 months after my first thyroid

storm, because I tried to take care of it myself (which I really didn't feel

I could, without diagnostic tests, etc., and this is why I went to the

doctor's) I only went on the PTU in May, and then by August I was hypo,

thanks to the doctor turning me out without any help. I believe, if she had

monitored me properly, I may have been able to go off PTU by Aug-Sept. But

because I went so hypo (thanks, Doc) it took me three months to get that

straightened out. And then one month for me to be not-freaked about going

off PTU since I fear those thyroid storms. We'll see what is going to

happen. I don't have my hopes up yet, because I have had too many of these

ups and downs (of my goiter too ;~)

Hi Pam,

You and I sound like we are taking those same small steps to try to stay in

recovery...I sound like a 12-step-er! ;~) Yes, I also have less money now,

but am trying, trying, to let go of my expectations, and " chill " as

advised.

Besides reading more books, and finally getting my house properly cleaned up

and doing some very heavy spring cleaning, I too am doing lots of gardening.

I think my need to clean my house, attic & yard, was a metaphor for cleaning

up my inside house too and has helped in my healing!

Hi Pam!

, it sounds like you are still in remission!

I THINK I am also, but don't know yet. I had tremendous stress since my last appointment in early April. But at that time I was doing so well, the endo said I could come back in 4 months instead of two. The day of my operation, I asked what my blood test results had been, because I asked them to also do my TSH and free T4 along with all the other blood work. They told me my TSH was low (.28) but my free T4 (1.24) was good.

Of course the operation itself and the healing was extremely traumatic, too, so it may have thrown me off even more. I still have some palpitations and my nails are slightly ridged, horizontally, and I have some shortness of breath, though that might be caused by being unable to exercise. I will find out how I am doing at the end of next month, when I have my endo appointment. But interestingly, I had opposite digestive problems from everyone else on this board, which my incompetent GP ascribed to my Graves'. Uh uh...it was the ovarian cyst!

Great hearing from you, Old Pam!

Arlene

PS: My HMO (health maintenance organization) went bankrupt the day after my surgery! Can't change doctors at this time...

Arlene

Welcome home Arlene !

OM Gosh ! I am so sorry to hear what you have been through !

I have wondered and wondered, and lately even been considering that maybe we would never know. Some folks do just move on and you never know.

6 weeks now. I am assuming it takes longer to get to where it doesn't hurt ? How are you doing ?

And is your remission still holding ? As I remember you were just at remission when we last spoke.

I took my last PTU on Jan. 28th ! Have been very patient waiting for 'completely ' normal, and just now am working on my next diagnosis...whatever it may turn out to be.

Boy, if it's not one thing , it's another. :-(

I am just so happy you are back with us. We can get through this together.

I have been in contact with Ron via email. She had her surgery yesterday and it was 12.5 hours. I guess Dr. Boachie changed his mind about doing it in 2 days if it was going to be over 6 hours. She is fused from T4 - L4. She is in a stepdown room and visiting hours are all day.

Jill, maybe you'll get the opportunity to stop in and say "hi" to Arlene.
