Guest guest
Gets scary doesn't it? Not enough sodium or sugars left in feces. Eat more vegetables, fiber one, psyllium. At low intakes gut sucks out all water to get the nutrients, IMO. Regards. ----- Original Message ----- From: Rod <danburleson@...> Sent: Friday, January 03, 2003 6:56 AM Subject: [ ] Water-Water-Water=Regularity? Water-water-water!That's all I hear. I'm trying to drink as much water as possible. But, problem is the taste of water makes me cringe. Even filtered and bottled water. But, I'll keep trying. Here's the problem: I'm getting into CRON very gradually. I'm suffering from almost constant CONSTIPATION. All I hear is my problem is a water inbalance. So, I'm (pardon the pun) sucking it up and drinking as much of the stuff as I can stand. But, back to the constipation thing. Is anyone else suffering this? It's an embarrasing thing to admit. But, you know...I figure at this point I need to 'out' myself in that respect.I'm taking ExLax probably 3 times per week. The water and Metamucil the rest of the time. If I don't "medicate" myself, I can literally go 3-5 days without a bowel movement. Man, you talk about being miserable and uncomfortable. Horrible feeling.Another point is this: I hardly ever eat vegetables. I'm trying to correct this with the gradual immersion into CRON. Could that be the source of fiber I am missing?Any insight on this would be appreciated. Thanks,Big Bloated Miserable Guy In Florida
Guest guest
Rod/dan: do you like fruit? Cause fruit as well as veggies will help move things along for you. Veggies, unfortunately for you, are the cornerstone of a CRON diet and have much fewer calories than fruit (on average) do most of us do eat a lot of veggies. Veggies also have many health benes. My advice is to learn to love them. Also, try V-8 juice for your veggies if you can't eat them. Prune juice or just plain prunes are marvelous for curing constipation and are very healthy, in keeping with a CRON diet. on 1/3/2003 7:56 AM, Rod <danburleson@...> at danburleson@... wrote: > Another point is this: I hardly ever eat vegetables. Guest guest
Hi Rod, You can also try eating soy nuts. They're tasty, and good on fiber and they're a bit on the dry side so you really want to drink that water with it! But yeah, veggies are key. I also drink 8oz of coffee every morning, which keeps me regular Jo > -----Original Message----- > From: Rod <danburleson@...> [mailto:danburleson@...] > > Water-water-water! > That's all I hear. Guest guest
I recently came across a news article about carbonated water and constipation. (I think it's Canada Dry that's referred to in the clip of the message below.) I can't find the exact reference, but here's a link to a Reuter's health story: http://www.drbobmartin.com/2002k_11_28news01.html I wouldn't recommend ExLax as a steady diet. The active ingredient is phenolphthalein (I'm a chemist) - the chemical used in laboratory acid-base titrations that turns clear-to-pink or vice versa, but that's not what makes it bad for you. It is a strong chemical bowel stimulant, suitable for 'emergencies' and not for routine consumption. (We always used to joke about baking phenolphthalein brownies for some un-loved faculty member.....) Because it is such a strong stimulant, you can become dependent on it, as on any stimulant. As for ExLax being 'full of chemicals' - that's not the problem with it (see above). EVERYTHING is full of chemicals. Water is a chemical, as is oxygen, and protein, starches, sugars and fiber. Milk of magnesia is also a chemical - although more gentle, and supplying some of a nutrient many people don't get enough of, and it acts by pulling more water into the fecal material, rather than by chemical stimulation of the bowel. However, from personal experience, I can tell you that M-o-M can also be overdone if taken regularly (bad pun). The real answer is more INSOLUBLE fiber, and yes, more water. Soluble fiber (such as oat bran and pectins) lowers cholesterol by binding to it and helping it leave the body. Insoluble fiber is found in wheat bran and other grains and remains undigested and serves as a bulking agent through the intestinal tract. Most fruits and vegetables actually contain both kinds of fiber. You can become dependant on them. They are full of chemicals (yuck). Also Milk of Magnesia is much better and gentle. > I prefer to use Aloe vera gel CAPS. You can get them at the health food store. They are a all natural laxative. They are usaully by the aloe vera gel. > Also remember you dont have to drink water straight! Make some herbal tea and put it in the fridge drink it cold. Put some lelmon in it. Also canadian dry is water but carbonated. I know when I fast sometimes I can not stand water any more and I have to get some canadian dry to go on with the fast. The wate r and Metamucil In the first 4 years of CR I suffered from it too. But It stopped, few mounths ago and I don't know why. Perhaps the organisms adapts with time to low cal intake. I admit however that when I go to the bathroom, I do (literally) a lot of shit heheheheheh.... But I don't suffer anymore from the unpleasant sensations of constipatinon and (ahrrrr!) hemorroids! I drink lots of watter a day if this helps. (4 litters, including my fruit punch and nonfat milk). I don't feel hunger not appetite also. I'm perfectly adapted to CR (after 4 years on the program). -- Gandhi. __________________________________________________________________________ E-mail Premium BOL Antivírus, anti-spam e até 100 MB de espaço.
