Guest guest
Dear -- Was there a traumatic time in your child's life when she became fearful of vomiting? Be reassuring and empathic and ask her to try a little bit of food-even a large crumb. However, it seems that you need to go back to your doctor and explain what is happening. She will become seriously ill with lack of sleep and food and may need to be hospitalized. Obviously, this is a most serious problem that needs expert care. I know, as a parent, how terribly trying this must be, but you need to find the best care for your little girl. Give her lots of praise when she is doing anything okay and find a good behavioral therapist. But please get medical attention quickly. Sincerely, Dr. Barbara Freedman (brbfreed@...) Guest guest
Dear Masoud-- I know that you expect your child to do all of the chores which you list--and they probably are within reason--however, please remember that she has only been on the planet for 5 and a half years and is still a child-and a young one at that. It is my suggestion that you try token economy or chip trading (poker chips). She earns one chip each time she does anything--i.e. brush her teeth, pick up clothes, even one sock, put on her clothes--even one item--the object is to reward her for anything positive that she does. She can lose chips for being disrespectful, not complying the first time, etc. She can " buy " things with her chips, i.e. extra time with dad or mom, extra story, a bubble bath, extra half hour to stay up, desert, friend over, go to a friends, park, etc. There is really more to this but I am sure you can get the gist. Let me know what happens. This is only a suggestion and may not work in your home-but stay with it for several months. Sincerely, Dr. Barbara Freedman
Guest guest
We've been in touch with the doctor right along and are adjusting Jess' medication. Also looking for a CBT. In the meantime -- and as a temporary measure -- she started anti-anxiety meds that are helping her sleep and helping her eat more. Yes, she did have trauma related to vomiting; her grandmother (my mom) died of ovarian cancer and vomited at the end. Tho Jess never saw her vomiting, she was aware of it, and on the day my mom died, Jess came down with a vomiting virus. Bad timing. The two were very close and I was away for 3 weeks caring for my mom as she died...so there's separation anxiety mixed in. But it seems we'll never be able to undo the damage; it's been a year and a half and she's had viruses since then. She knows people throw up and get better, and that her grandma died of cancer, not vomiting. Maybe (probably?) something else would have triggered her OCD if this incident hadn't. Anyway, I know her OCD is very serious and I'm on top of it. She's slept through the night for 3 nights now and actually ate some dinner last night! Breakfasts have been keeping her going...that's the time of day of lowest anxiety for her. Thanks for the input. Stockman-Vines lstockman@... Re: Digest Number 96 From: Brbfreed@... Guest guest
Not an answer but a comment: if you have been taking something and it has been helping you, keep on taking it. Dr. D'D's recommendations are pretty general. If you could consult with him, he might well recommend just what you're taking for your condition. Tha't how I figure it anyway. I again started taking the multivitamin and mineral I had been taking (and benefiting from). I had stopped when I started the diet and I wasn't making the progress I thought I should. The multi kicked in and my progress improved. Our lives and health are probably the most up close science experiment we'll ever be close to. We need to pay attention to what we can feel helping us. Of course, we stay open to new info like the diet, but we know better than anybody how it feels inside. We need to trust that too. Guest guest
Diane, I was stage 2/3 and went on the combo for 24 weeks at which time I was undetectable and the treatment was stopped. At my 6 month post check-up the virus had returned and now I am now on a roller coaster ride between doctors - one who says I should go back on for 48 weeks and the other two saying they havn't seen any proof that going back on the combo after being off for a while will bring about a sustained response. If you can tolerate the 48 weeks I would recommend staying on to try and increase your chances of sustaining a reponse. Good luck to you whatever choice you make! Beth - Date: Thu, 6 Apr 2000 01:05:16 EDT From: DIANSA@... Subject: Re: Re: the living end Been reading your missives about stopping treatmetn at 6 months (24 weeks) and am envious! My 24 weeks was up March 31....I had been thinking that my last shot would have been March 31 but during treatment the protocol seemed to change and because I am over 40 (52), have had hep c for 30 years, and am stage 2 fibrosis, my doc says I should stay on combo for 48 weeks.....even though I am a 2b and was undetectable at 3 months! He believes, as do others, that I have an even better chance of sustained remission if I go the full 48 weeks.....What do you all think? Guest guest
I am just so disgusted that Owens-Corning has filed bankruptcy to avoid paying claims against them from ppl who became ill from asbestos. They are doing the exact same thing to these ppl that they have done to us. Surely, they won't be able to get away with this one, too. I am an owner of a Curves so I can give you the scoop. First of all, I am glad you all are finding out about this terrific program. I had my MGB 3/20/00 and have lost 108 lbs. My saggy skin definately isn't bad at all thanks to this program. Most everyone who answered had the the cost pretty much right. It is $29 a month on a check draft program. That means it comes automatcially out of your checking account and is guaranteed never to increase. If it is any other way, it is 39 a month. There is a one time service of $149. Depending on the special of the month that amount can change from between 49 to 79. At this time " most " clubs are offering 50% off the 149 plus the first month free. Also keep in mind that if you do the check draft program you can work out at any Curves. If you are month to month it is not guranteed to increase and you can only work out at the facility you joined. There are now over 2000 Curves in United States. Where were they then!! Seriously, though, I would try not to take on too much responsibility. You may have a hard time finding the energy, especially if and when you start the combo.
