I want to ask if anyone has experience with

vit. C and/ or potassium drink to arrest leg

cramps. There is a certain balancing exercise

i can do which invariably causes leg cramps

while sleeping that nite. I usually have to get

up then, and when i do i often drink a small

glass of Alacer (brand ) powder C ( 1000 mg

C, 250 mg Potassium, other minerals).

It *seems* to me this calms the cramps near

immediately and *may* prevent them recurring

the same nite. However, since just standing up

putting weight on the legs also arrests the cramping,

i am not sure which of both measures has the

more effect. ( Experiments continue...) Has

anyone tried the Vit. C means? Does this " sound "

reasonable, workable?

The cramping probably starts from the lack of sodium WHILE exercising

and then after a meal it is aggrevated by what you are or not eating

or drinking. My experience is to make sure I get enough salt and

fluids during the day as well as an abundance of potassuim rich foods

to balance it out. Your potassium suppplement is what is resolving

the issue but if you just made sure your electrolites were balanced

all day it may not happen. Also calcium and magnesium must be

balanced to overcome this. Here are some potassium rich foods to be

aware of and incorporate in your diet daily and don't be afraid to

salt your food!

I hope I helped. What exercise are you doing that causes this in the

first place?

I suffered from nocturnal leg cramps - and foot cramps - many years

ago.

I did not know about the effect of potassium on the condition.

The first aid that offered immediate relief was extending the

cramped muscle.

I eventually found that improving the health of the calf muscles -

mainly by stretching them out more regularly - seemed to alleviate

the condition.
