Guest guest
If your daughter has a head tilt, you may want to check out the torticollis group: Torticollis This head tilt could be the very cause of the flatness. A tight neck muscle could be causing your daughter to tilt her head and prefer one side. Call your doc and ask to check for tort, if you get the DOC band, you also need to address the tort, as that may be the underlying cause as to why its becoming flat. Let us know! Guest guest
Kelli, Welcome and I'm glad you found us! My daughter began treatment using a locally made helmet at 9 months old. We did not use the DOC or STARband rather we used a helmet. These are more passive and usually cover the entire head. We saw very good improvement and think VERY highly of the orthotist who did the helmet, adjustments and appointments. The best part - the total cost was only $700! Most people who use the DOCband are very satisfied with the product. We have had people who have been dissatisfied with the DOCband, but they are few and far between. The majority of people who use the STARband are satisfied with that product as well. If the orthotist who makes the STARband is experienced and has worked with the STARband and infants for some time you should have VERY good luck with the STARband. The key is to interview your orthotist! If they do not seem knowledgable and experienced with the STARband you might want to consider driving the extra distance for the DOCband. More than likely the STARband will cost considerably less then the DOCband. It is also possible that the orthotist who your specialist is recommending makes a locally made helmet. These devices are more passive and allow the baby's head to grow into the shape of the helmet rather then applying direct pressure in specific locations like the bands. The key here is to ask questions!! Check out our files section for a folder called questions for the orthotist. This will help you to know what to ask in order to evaluate the orthotist's skill and experience. Hey, most people here can really relate to your situation. Many of us were told that the head would round out on its own and because we tend to trust our doctors we all believed those words. I know I went through the mad, sad, guilty, worried, and alone stages!!! But, we came through with flying colors and a much rounder and more aligned face! Sounds like your baby has torticollis. Are you receiving PT for that? Check out torticolliskids (another group) for help in getting through the torticollis experience. I'm glad you're here and I hope you will stick with us and share more of your story. I think you will find this group to be an outstanding source of answers, support and friendship. Best wishes! Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I'm and new here. I've read many interesting things about CRON and am looking forward to reading others experiences with this. I am hoping to begin this plan sometime next week, I know it will be a tough road and will take lots of willpower, but a longer healthier life is worth it! .
