Guest guest
Neil: I think we need to hear more. What's your diet like? How many calories? What are your meals like? What are you eating? How much beer are you drinking? Where did you start from afa weight and how much have you lost (if any)? If you started higher, how long have you been plateauing? Give as as much info as you can and perhaps we can help. Remember if you follow CRON the pounds should come off as a " by product " . The goal is not necessarily to lose weight (although most of us do). The goal is to get healthier. on 10/20/2002 4:15 PM, ngarrison_2000 at ng@... wrote: > Hi. Guest guest
I'm 5'10" and weigh in the low 160's.. I also drink beer, in fact I'm drinking one right now... but I just got in from playing 2 1/2 hours of basketball, and on days I don't play I run 5 miles... The goal is not to lose weight per se, but if you want to it's pretty much a matter of burning more kCal than you consume. It's a good idea to get a handle on what your eating with a computer program like DWIDP... then start trimming the less nutritious foods... alcohol is pretty low on the cost/benefit scale for nutrition, but I'd have to see what else you're eating before arbitrarily offering advice . However I would caution about being in too much of a hurry. At 28 (I'm 54) I'd take advantage of all that growth hormone you've got, to build up a little muscle by weight training... while muscle weighs more than fat, having more muscle will burn more Kcalories at rest. Patience and moderation.. you have plenty of time to attain your goals. Guest guest
Try fasting one day per week. That's been pretty effective in getting me past stalls in my weight-loss. Just be especially vigilant to avoid overeating during the days following your fasts. I guess I'm one of the people for whom not eating at all is easier than stopping once they've started. Guest guest
I appreciate the feedback I have received so far. Here is some more information. In the mornings I usually eat a tofu/soy milk smoothy made with a banana and maybe a peice of peach or some berries. Lunch varies quite a bit. Sometimes a salad, sometimes leftovers, sometimes a tuna sandwich. For dinner I like to eat rice with vegetables and beans. We also eat veggie burritos, soups, stews, etc. I have 2 kids so I need to make sure whatever I eat they will like Sometimes after dinner I'll have a scoop of light breyers ice cream with my kids. As mentioned before, I am a moderate beer drinker. I really enjoy a good beer, and probably drink a 6-8 beers a week. I also enjoy eating sunflower seeds, and might be a little addicted to those I have never calculated my calory intake, and the thought of it gives me a headache. I can't imagine measuring everything I ate. Maybe if there are some good tools to help out it wouldn't be so bad. I have lost a little weight but overall I have been the same. Basically, I am looking for what my IDEAL weight would be. Am I supposed to be 150lbs, 160lbs, 170lbs, etc?? I just feel that 190lbs for 5'10 " is probably a little much. I'm not totally happy with how I look and/or feel. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks again, Neil > > > Hi. I'm 28 years old and I'm hovering right around 190lbs at 5'10 " > > tall. Guest guest
Neil: Except for the beer your diet sounds pretty good. Since you're not interested in counting calories, why not try just eating a bit less? Consume one beer a week less at first; maybe you can eventually cut that beer consumption in half; try just an open faced sandwich rather than two slices of bread in a sandwich - IOW just cut down a bit slowly and see if that makes a difference. For the ice cream, they do make a no fat, no sugar instead of the " light " you're now eating. But it does have calories and you can't just eat indiscriminately. You might also try reading or rereading the " Aids and Tips " file. I rely a lot on the guar puddings to fill me up, but there are other tricks in the file that might appeal to you. I would write down everything that touches your lips for a week because perhaps there are snacks you're having that you're forgetting about. These could add up. The other alternative is what recommended: more exercise. Do you lift weights? Jog? on 10/21/2002 7:25 PM, ngarrison_2000 at ng@... wrote: > I have never calculated my calory intake, and the thought of it gives > me a headache. I can't imagine measuring everything I ate. Guest guest
Hi Francesca. I started running this week and we'll see how that goes. I don't typically lift weights, but I do about 100 push-ups and sit-ups daily. I have never tried the guar pudding, so thanks for the idea. Anything to feel better and increase my overall health! Guest guest
FWIW you do approximately the same exercise walking a mile as running a mile... but you can sure get more accomplished in less time running... regarding lo-cal ice cream, I've tasted frozen bananas that were ground up and they had a mouth feel very similar to ice cream, I've also made some passable imitation ice cream with non-fat yogurt or kefir in one of those small ice cream makers... Small incremental changes all in the right direction will move you in the right direction.....
