Guest guest
Jef: it can be a problem. Read the file: " Dr Walford's Posts " on osteo. It is an open question; we don't know if we have " lighter " bones, yet " stronger " bones. Also when you stop losing weight, it seems the bone loss (if we're correct that there is some) stops. And finally there's some question that dexa scans are even accurate (supposedly they're not). My dexa showed quite a bit of bone loss. I'm on a hormone that you spray into your nose (miacalcin). In my case though, since I'm a post menopausal, slight build, caucasian woman (a high risk group) i can't blame it on CRON. Others, much younger than me with dexas showing bone loss, are on other bone strengthening meds. But not everyone. I'm no longer worried about it because I've taken many nasty falls since (I'm a klutz) with no ill effects. OTOH, before CRON a number of years ago, I fell on my knee in my kitchen and shattered my knee. My doctor said it was just a freak accident and that the knee is very vulnerable to injury. As I said, no problems since, in spite of a couple of nasty falls on hard concrete outside. on 4/10/2003 12:39 PM, nutrinaut at neologisticscald@... wrote: > One thing I certainly don't want to experience is suffering from > osteoporosis caused by CR. Guest guest
Yes; osteo is a problem on CR. Counter measures: - load (weigh lifting) - vibrations (like mountain biking; not much from jogging, definitely less from the elliptical & cross thingies, swimming etc.) - supplements: Calcium, Magnesium, Vitamin D, strontium, menatetrenone, Vitamin K (esp. K2). - unsupplements: limit Vitamin A (retinol, not Beta Carotene) to about 1000 units per day. Compensate with more Beta Carotene (which you should get more than enough from veggies) - coordination (not technically for strong bones, but reduces fracture risk due to better balance) Micky. -----Original Message----- From: nutrinaut [mailto:neologisticscald@...] Sent: Thursday, April 10, 2003 9:40 AM Subject: [ ] The problem of osteoporosis One thing I certainly don't want to experience is suffering from osteoporosis caused by CR.
