Guest guest
I have been a "CRonie wannbie" for over a year now. I completely agree with the CR lifestlyle and I have read 2 of Walford's books (Beyond the 120 Yr Diet & Anti-Aging Plan). My problem is starting the plan. I have 2 main problems: #1 - I have a severe sugar addication, especially between Halloween candy season and Easter candy season (I am not Christian, I only celebrate the candy). I seem to do OK if I stop sugar cold turkey, but eventually I start to eat healthier sweets which eventually leads to an unhealthy sugar binge, and then it's all over. I can't do moderation. The frustrating part is that I love healthy food, too. I will gladly eat a kale and egg white omelette for dinner, I just need a peppermint patty for dessert. If they had a sugar rehab center, I would check myself in. My only saving grace right now is excercise - I run about 9 miles per week and do some weight training at a gym about 3 days per week. Problem #2 is that I can't seem to manage my time right in order to prepare healthy food. I work 55 hours a week and have 2 kids (ages 6 and 2 1/2) - On the weekdays I get home after picking up the kids at 6 pm, and I am too tired to cook. I like the idea of spending all day Sunday preparing a week's worth of meals and freezing them, but that robs me of precious time with the kids and husband that I don't get during the week. I have recipes galore, but they all involve coordinating food shopping and menu planning, and many of the recipies in Walford's books are quite time consuming. Even preparing salads is laborious - I need quick and easy. I wish I could buy ready made CR meals and frozen megamuffins. Also, when I do eat healthy, I can't get the kids to follow suit (although I substituted whole wheat spaghetti the other day and they didn't notice) I know it' wrong, but it's easier to give them 'bad' food to minimize the hassles and get them to eat anything at all. And my husband's favorite food is meat (but at least he likes fish) - so sometimes we have 3 different meals at the same time. Too many times we resort to pizza or Chinese takeout. Are there any busy CRonie moms with young kids out there that have any tips for me? I have gone through some of the CR aids/tips file - I think Suz's food variety checklist is great - but I also need a structured daily plan than I can prepare and shop for realistically. I'm going to make a last ditch effort this weekend to stop poisoning my body with sugar, really put aside some time to do some food planning and to get my nutrition under control.
