Guest guest
Thanks Tim, That pretty well covers it. I'm surprised that some things I still eat like avocados, bananas are offensive. Actually, of all those listed foods, only bananas raise my Blood pressure a little. Most I don't react to now that I take a calcium blocker. That pretty well did away with the headaches. Regards. ----- Original Message ----- From: Tim Tyler <tt2333@...> Sent: Monday, December 09, 2002 10:09 AM Subject: [ ] Tyramine "jwwright" <jwwright@e...> wrote:> While everyone tends to dwell on caffeine, it's the tyramines > in aged or fermented foods that causes grief. The page only has two categories - " bad " and " very bad " :-( ....and it doesn't go into the effects in much detail either. Tyamine seems /definitely/ undesirable - *if* you've taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor - e.g. deprynl or GH3 - recently. Otherwise the picture is less clear to me. Tyamine seems to get implicated in headaches - e.g.: http://optom.tripod.com/headache.htm - along with nitrates and MSG - but I'm finding it difficult to see whether it is a very significant risk factor. Re bananas: ``Furthermore, regarding the controversy of " bananas " , she also agreed that the reported adverse event involving a banana included the stewing of the banana and banana peel; however, overripe bananas increase in tyramine content, thus, overripe bananas should be avoided.'' This makes it sounds like only one experiment has black-listed bananas.
Guest guest
It occurs to me the USDA database is lacking in a lot of things. They keep updating it with more and more OTC foods, but not much on nutrients or offensive non-nutrients. I've added what I can find datawise to mine but not a lot. The SR14 and SR15 (which has a lot removed) are way behind. Probably the overripe thing applies to all fruits. regards. ----- Original Message ----- From: Tim Tyler <tt2333@...> Sent: Monday, December 09, 2002 3:12 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Tyramine "jwwright" <jwwright@e...> wrote:> That pretty well covers it.
