Guest guest
MM: I agree that most of the foods mentioned are incompatible with CRON but I'm surprised to hear that you don't eat fruit. What about some of the " healthier " carbs mentioned - like oatmeal and popcorn? Walford recommends fruit and oatmeal. Al Pater eats tons of popcorn, as he's posted in the past. on 11/6/2002 7:46 AM, Mambo Mambo at mambomambo@... wrote: > > > > Hello all > It seems that Wurtman is looking only at the short term effects of sugar. > These are well known. Guest guest
I'm not sure what CRON is and I certainly don't know what "useless" calories are since, some calories are needed for fuel. We need less nutrient dense foods with the right nutrients one way or another. If we were to eat a perfect food containing only 500 kcals, we'd have to add sugar or oil. So if we choose to mix some of that oil/sugar with flour, we get a cookie. Or if we fry potatoes in oil - french fries. "Healthier" carbs are in the eyes of the beholder. I noticed what Walford ate on TV - a big bowl of salad - not enough for my 18oo kcals even tho 3 of those would provide all the nutrients. And I couldn't handle or need all that salsa. I use rice and some corn for bulk energy, because my bod doesn't like wheat/oatmeal much. Guest guest
JW: rice (brown?) and corn - OK. But sugar, oil (unless you're talking about olive oil) and fries? Sounds like Jammer's previous Mc's fare or the SAD (standard american diet). on 11/6/2002 7:09 PM, jwwright at jwwright@... wrote: > I'm not sure what CRON is and I certainly don't know what " useless " calories > are since, some calories are needed for fuel. Guest guest
I'm just saying that energy has to come from somewhere be it oil or sugars. We can make better choices perhaps. Yes brown rice steamed. Corn chips are fried in soy oil - not hydrogenated. Not like I eat those everyday. Like today my calorie count is 1598 and I need some fats without any more protein. So avocado and chips is was. Tomorrow we'll have manicotti with ricotta cheese and spinach and fresh tomato sauce. Soy oil has omega 3's for what that's worth, but I eat little of any oil like 14 gms. I prefer to get my fatty acids in foods like avocado (fatty acids are like olive oil). I think my success maintaining an 1800 kcal veggie diet is variety. I'm actually concerned about rigidizing my diet too much. I might leave out some of the thousand things we don't know about. Actually, I have no taste for french fries. I already get 4k mg of potassium to balance 1k mg of sodium. Potatoes have too much K. What do you think about fiber one? I don't think I found a consensus on phytic acid usefulness.
