Your Genes Tell You What To Eat! September 25, 2001 Researchers in Atlanta, Georgia have been testing the theory that your dining habits are governed by genetics. The result of the study of identical and fraternal twins verifies their belief that what you crave and what you eat are indeed programmed into your molecular system. This is fascinating! Researchers at Georgia State University asked 110 adult identical twins and 155 adult fraternal twins to keep a diary for seven days of everything they ate. This included snacks as well as meals. They also recorded how hungry they felt before and after each meal, and how many people ate with them. Identical twins were twice as likely to have similar eating habits as the fraternal twins. Identical twins were similar in the time of day they chose to eat meals, how much they ate, and if they were hungry before or full after eating a meal. They were also similar in how many people they liked to eat with. This was true despite that fact that many of the identical twins lived apart. Fraternal twins did not share the same eating habits. Researchers say that upbringing was unlikely to have much effect on dinning tastes. And so it goes, you eat what your genetics tell you to eat! What could be simpler?
