The only thing I can offer right now is have him show you the route he thinks the pain is taking. I can't explain and don't remember quite right now but I've been told repeatedly that the pain in my shoulder can't come from my neck because the nerves that run to the shoulder and arm exit/enter the spinal cord, below the cervical joints. He should have one of those spine models or diagrams in the office that shows the joints and the nerve bundles. Hope this makes sense. Also try to make notes tonight, so you don't leave saying, I wish I'd told him about this or that. Good luck, Dave
Guest guest
-Hi Rob I am guessing you are looking for problems caused my neck troubles is that right?? Well they can be very different depending on where the neck troubles are. Fist I'd say go check out the links and go to the First Dematone map the one that has (mayo) in the link. And on that page there is a dermatone map you can enlarge that shows you were all the discs affect each area of your body. My neck problems were spinal stenosis and several other things. For one I had pain so bad it felt like I couldn't even hold my head up at times. Also I had pain from my shoulderblades up to my shoulders and all the way to my hairline. This was all nerve pain and it was pretty severe. One thing I read was that when its something like that it feels better to drop your head then hold it up because this opens up the pinched area where as holding your head up closes it off and causes the pain. Tingling I would say is like when your foot falls asleep and it tingles while its waking up. Burning is just that it feels like that part of your body is ON FIRE I know that one well from my sciatic nerve in my foot. Shooting pains almost feel like lightening to me where they come and go and seem to move around. And you have constant pain or pain that can come and go. Unfortunately I know most of these too well I spent almost 2 yrs before I got a dr to operate and fix my neck and by then I was ready to chop my own head off it hurt so much. What kind of troubles are you having that your dr thinks your neck need surgery??? They can do shots in your neck, Pt the whole round of stuff justr like they go thru with your back. If I knew what was hurting you I might be of more help but thats all I can tell you for now. And yes you don't have to jump into a surgery unless the dr thinks its a matter of life and death then I think I would still want a second opinion, but quickly. Let us know what the dr says Thurs and go check out the map I think that may help you answer more questions. Good Luck. Guest guest
, no two people have the same kind of pain or were it goes. each can differ. best thing to do is show in where your pain is and the path it travels. If there is a problem the MRI will show it. Then most doctors will do a myolgram to see if surgery is in fact necessary. Also request a 2nd opinion. Guest guest
, I had cervical surgery 3 years ago but I will not be having a revision due to a heart problem. Dr. Lauerman told me I needed to get the neck surgery done before any revision could be done because of the way they place you on the surgery table. I had the neck surgery and they did a decompression of most of the cervical disks. He had planned to do a 2-level fusion but he did not because he felt that the area was stable enough without it. The surgery pain was more than I thought it would be but the recovery was done in 5-6 weeks. in VA
