Since it's possible that we still don't know quite everything about

nutrition yet, perhaps we could enjoy eating all of these foods (except

alfalfa sprouts. I don't like alfalfa sprouts. They seem to feel the same

way about me...) and get excellent orac income for our calories and money

and/or labor, as well as many yet unknown but valuable substances. I think

it's interesting to know which food is most efficient, but...after

all...we're not limited to one serving of one food. Thanks for the list,

Francesca.

Amen Ed. Which is why we suggest using the file " Checklist for CRON

Variety " (thanks Suzi Cart for that). A while back someone asked about

eliminating whole grains (dangerous info that was touted on another list -

not here!). As I said then, eliminate an entire food group at your own

peril!! Moderation, moderation, moderation.

Too bad we don't have the data for Chinese "broccoli" which I think is actually a spinach without the oxalic. A very tasty green. If I could get it easier, it might become my number one green. Also, I wonder about fresh basil and fresh sage (both easy to grow).

Regards.

Iris thanks for the new file and the table below. Great stuff!!A couple of years ago blueberries were being touted as the best "brain food"to prevent Alzheimer's and memory loss. Now I wonder if strawberries andspinach are even better .Iris wrote: Prunes 23 Raisins 9 Blueberries 43 Blackberries 39 Strawberries 51 Raspberries 25 Plums 17 Ornages 16 Red Grapes 11 Cherries 9 Kiwi 10 Pink Grapefruit 16 Kale 35 Spinach 57 Brussel Sprouts 23 Alfalfa Sprouts 32 Broccoli Flowers32 Beets 20 Red Bell Pepper 26 Onion 12 Corn 5 Eggplant 15This indicates that strawberries (yum!) and spinach (also yum! - andI'm not getting embroiled in the oxalic acid arguments here) are the bestvalues, i.e. fewest calories per equivalent ORAC. Blueberriesaren't too shabby either, but not the best. Prunes and raisins loseout because of their high calorie values.

I believe I read somewhere just the other day that strawberries tend

to have by far the highest amount of toxic gunk on them (e.g.

pesticides...). So be careful in your strawberry eatings.

Yes- i have read the same thing in a number of places.

Strawberries - because they are a delicacy, a popular

favorite. They gotta look nice.

The cautions i read also indicated: spinach !

So, you do what you gotta do. Buy organic, i suppose,

if you can. At least try to wash it pretty thoroughly.

I have learned the hard way, that for someone sensitive to

sugar, as in hypoglycemia, eating from the avove 3 is suicidal.

Dried fruit for someone with hypoglycemic tendencies? NO

thanks!

I don't understand fully how this works, for me, but i can have

2 to 3 times the volume of apples as blueberries, but the

blueberries make me notice running out fuel, early in the

afternoon, the apples don't.
