Guest guest
I was wondering the other day if any food-calorie lists, list the actual calories and other constituents per UNIT as consumed. What made me think about this was eating nuts. Eating these tempts me to take just one more. Shelling peanuts, i was thinking, how many calories each peanut? How many calories for each walnut, or for each broken walnut piece? How many calories for each spoonful of sweetpotato? Well, i suppose i will have to work this out for myself. I do not think this is obsessive behavior any more than tracking where your pocket money went, is. For example, after eating x walnuts, i could easily do the mental math of x times y calories, x times z protein grams, and i would quickly have a handle on where i stood, rather than having to weigh out a portion ahead of time, which is not the way i like to eat. ( I am also the kind of person who memorizes the number codes for grocery produce.) I was also thinking that nuts still in shells is the way to go. You have to go thru some manipulations to get to the seed, this slows out the eating process and to some degree, i wager, actually assists in the satiety feeling process, the manual manipulation does. The opposite of this kind of basic, primitive harvest-eating being, for example, pouring the calories of a milk shake straight down one's gullet, pure calorie binging. I also relearned something i suspected long ago: avoid salted nuts (salted anything), specially flavored or what ever, that just seduces one to eat just one more. ( Of course, this is 180 degrees out from conventional thinking.) The closer to basic, primitive, call it Paleo foods if you wish, the more control you have over your appetites.
