Guest guest
Heard on the radio: older people who have memory loss may not be suffering from Alzheimer's. A study has shown that some elderly who don't process blood sugar properly, and some diabetics, will suffer memory loss.
Guest guest
Yes, I am still on Gleevec vacation. I am waiting on results of my latest PCR test. I will see my local ONC the 24th for the results. The last PCR test was positive in Nov, but not to the point of concern other than repeat the test. I chose to wait until after the holidays before repeating it as he thought that they might be standariezing the tests again. If my results remain eleveated then I will start taking 400mg Gleevec and repeat the PCR in 30 days. Since my ONC emails all my results to Dr. K. I do not know if he has anyone else on vacation. I did get word that if my platelets and RBC plummets again that I will be able to get procrit if I need it this time around instead of depending on transfusions. Will post again after the results are in. Guest guest
Hi Marcos: I agree with you and appreciate your post. As you know, I am not the one with CML, my husband is. However, I was reading all of the posts feeling like I can totally relate...but I dont have CML!! Partly due to my husband's CML, and partly due to life in general and other " issues " we deal with, I have alot of stress in my life and sometimes it surfaces in the form of anxiety attacks. During my stressful times, I dont eat as well, sleep less, and worry alot. And I, too, have had many times where at work I am almost unable to function because I cant remember what I am supposed to do with my mouse! (I am a Creative Director for a design agency, and literally have been stopped in my tracks, deep in the software that I know like the back of my hand because I suddenly cannot remember how to complete a certain task). During the time of 's CML diagnosis (and stroke and brain surgeries) I was also suffering major lack of sleep due to the fact that we had a 2.5 month old baby (a nursing one at that!)...and I was a zombie. A scared, anxious, tired, new mom thinking she was losing her husband, who could barely form sentences, having panic attacks (never before had them). The only reason I say this is wow!!!! stress has such a massive effect on our bodies and I think most Americans dont give it too much attention, sadly enough. Before CML, never had anxiety issues or panic attacks. Never. And, yes, before CML also never was on Gleevec and Sprycel (he actually has never been on any medication and could count the times he even had to take aspirin on his fingers). So, one could conclude that the anxiety might be due to these medications. But, before being diagnosed, also was not a man living with cancer, and dealing with all of the mental and physical issues that living with cancer brings about. Being told he had a life threatening, life-long disease, became life altering. So, often times we feel that who is to say what " side effects " come from the drugs and what ones come from the realization and acceptance of living with cancer. @...: montereyunderwater@...: Thu, 10 Jan 2008 12:09:33 -0800Subject: Re: [ ] Memory Loss On the memory attention issue our drug may or may not have some effectbut I don't think there is a reason to get too afraid of notremembering a name or word. Brain function is very affected by anumber of things, the major ones being lack of sleep and stress. Ifyou don't sleep well, for whatever reason (cramps are oftenmentioned), memory and attention are not going to be performing well.Same thing for stress. A good example is in the army : fear, pressure,a couple of hour sleep a night, and young fit and healthy peopleforget things they are drilled to check or miss some obvious thinghappening around them while focusing on something else. Pilots usecheck lists, not because they usually have some brain disorder, but toavoid forgetting something critical if they are in a hurry (also toavoid routine complacency). If I was concerned by bad memory moments Iwould first ask myself if I sleep well.Marcos.On Jan 8, 2008 2:56 PM, dickie_64012 <rbhuffman@...> wrote:>>>>> I would like to chime in on the problem also.
