Fasting blood sugar

After waking up in the morning (in a fasted state) I decided to take

my blood sugar level with one of those small machines. I got 5.3. I

thought ideally it should be lower than that but my mom said that was

ideal. My dad, who is nearly diabetic gets around 8. Could anyone clue

me in as to what any of this means?

Thanks,

-

Hi and All,

The normal range is about 4.5-6.5 so you are in the middle. It has

been often seen that the level goes down with CR.

Hi Al,

Thanks for the info. So if I checked it again in a few months and it

was down, would that be a good sign? :)

Hi All,

Yes, low is good. Insulin should be low too when fasting. Insulin

resistence is a large problem that drives up blood glucose, leading

to glycation.

I will be unavailable for some time as I travel to British Columbia

for my long-term disability locality. Once I am there I look

forward to mostly lurk and post once in a while.

Cheers, Al.
