I take 1 multi on most days simply as insurance currently. - -------------------------------------------------------------- , don't give up a multivitamin just because it contains niacin, unless your M.D. has for some reason told you not to take niacin. Niacin is one of the most beneficial vitamins for cardiovascular health. It improves the status of all lipids. It raises HDL (the good cholesterol) and lowers total cholesterol and LDL (the bad cholesterol). It one of the most important compounds in the entire materia medica used against cardiovascular disease. One caution: for those that are taking therapeutic doses of Niacin (high doses), the liver enzymes must be checked regularly. A small percentage of people develop liver problems when on high dose/therapeutic dose Niacin (for example, some people take Niacin or Niaspan in doses of 500 mg to 4500 mg as treatment for low HDL and high LDL and high total cholesterol. Those individuals need to have their liver enzymes checked regularly). The amount of niacin likely present in a multivitamin is likely not going to be a problem. Please be aware that Niacin may cause flushing, itching, warmth, etc. Bob Bessen
Guest guest
Thanks, Bob. I was referring to niacinamide in my vitamin pill (not niacin, my mistake). I decided to ditch my vitamin pills till I know more about how all vitamins/minerals work. I don't think I'm deficient in anything currently. -Zulu
