Guest guest
Vivian, The PTU is not preventing the GD, but it is helping to lower your antibody count which will help you achieve remission. Because the immune system, not the thyroid, is causing your symptoms, ideally you want to heal the immune system, not destroy the thyroid unless for some reason you can't tolerate the meds. Take care, elaine
Guest guest
Hi Vivian, I am 39 years old and had RAI last Friday. I know it's too early to tell any symptoms of it yet but initially I just felt more hyper and a bit more aggressive. Hope this helps. GG vgionti8@... wrote: Hi Diane - I'm long past trying to conceive, but need more feedback, hopefully some positive feedback, regarding RAI. My endo is recommending it for me as well as my general practitioner. I am also on 300 mgs PTU daily. Have been for 9 days. I also have Graves. I am very tired and sleep a lot midday also. My worse complaint is body aches, sore muscles. Can't do half of what I could do a month ago. The PTU is preventing Graves from damaging my heart, but it is not preventing the Graves. I have 4 weeks to think about RAI. Right now, it looks like I might go for it, just to feel normal again??? I would love to hear from someone who had it done and is glad they made the decision. Guest guest
Hi GG, I had a thyroid scan and they used RAI, will I have any problems with this that you know of, the hospital where I had this done told me no, that's why I agreed to the test, I have felt awful for the past 3 years. It wasn't until I had found a new Dr. that she finally pin pointed something was wrong with my thyroid. It is almost a relieve to me that they found it. I'm so tired of feeling this way, I am so glad that I found this group, and to know that I am not alone....Thanks to all....Penny Re: (no subject) Hi Vivian, I am 39 years old and had RAI last Friday. Guest guest
I hope that this won't be the same for the rest of us, my dr. told me with the right meds and things that I should be feeling better over time. Guest guest
Hi Penny, Yes, the doctors here in Montreal, also told me that it was the best option, as well as having no side effects. I am crossing my fingers that everything will be okay with us post-RAI people and that we won't have any serious side effects. I don't know what will happen anymore... Honestly, the only different thing I am feeling now (a week after RAI) is aggression and mood swings. I got really upset last night because my sister thinks this is something I can control, dismissing it as what it is! I even thought as "blocking sender" her!!! She lives in California and we email each other. I cried and cried, I never get so upset... I am trying hard to research everything... the book "The Thyroid Solution" is a very good start. Anyway, thanks for writing and please keep me posted. Guest guest
Hi Penny, How's your nutrition? Around Christmas last year I was totally exhausted. When I improved my nutrition my energy levels increased markedly. I've been taking the product that Donna has so much success with (thanks for that Donna!) which is a complete nutritional supplement, to which I have also added a couple of extra supplements which I discovered I needed more of - zinc and iron. (All my friends are probably sick to death of me going on about magnesium, but it has made such a difference for me - since I've added more to my diet my palpitations have all but stopped, my PMS has improved hugely, muscle twitches have gone, anxiety levels have improved, and I feel that my thyroid has reduced in size.) I'm not saying that you should necessarily take magnesium, but that nutrition can make a huge difference to our health. The ithyroid.com site is full of useful nutritional information, I have found it to be extremely useful. In fact, I don't know what I would have done without it ... thanks ! Good luck, >From: " " <raven@...> >Reply-hyperthyroidism ><hyperthyroidism > >Subject: Re: (no subject) >Date: Sat, 21 Sep 2002 08:12:30 -0400 > >Probley because RAI uptake dose kill part of Ur thyroid and its dumping >hormones in to Ur blood stream > Re: (no subject) > > > In a message dated 9/20/2002 6:37:41 AM Eastern Daylight Time, >yourpicturehere@... writes: > > > > had a thyroid scan and they used RAI, > > > Dear Penny, > > Did you have RAI, or did you just have a RAuptake test, which is not >the same thing? > > AntJoan > >
Guest guest
I've had a couple of biopsies on my thyroid nodule, Penny. It's really not bad at all. The doctor numbs the area; that stings a might. Then he waits a minute or so for the anesthetic to take effect before inserting a long, scary-looking needle into the gland and drawing out fluid/tissue for analysis. You won't feel that at all, I'll bet. I didn't. The only uncomfortable part of the procedure for me was when the needle was removed; they have to hold pressure there for a few minutes and I didn't like that much. It didn't hurt, I just don't feel comfortable with someone pushing that hard on my neck. Your neck will be sore for a couple of days probably, but really, it's not a terrible procedure. You'll do fine. Guest guest
Hi , My nutrition is terrible. I am always on the go, and never take the time to eat right. maybe supplements is what I need. This whole thing about RAI sounds scarey to me. I hate taking drugs, exspecially when they could be for the rest of my life. I thought I had diabetes to, it's a releif that I don't. Thank you for the info I'll check out that web site to see what I can do for myself naturally. I don't see the endro Dr. till Oct 3. That's when he'll do my biopsy, Has anyone else had a biobsy on there thyroid? Everyone keeps telling me not to worry, it's hard not to. Guest guest
Hi Donna, How did your results turn out after your biopsy? My Dr. told me that I have a cyst about 2 centimeters, that needed to be checked. I go to the ear, throat and nose Dr. on the 3rd of Oct. that's to check out why my voice is so hoarse. I know all that alot of it is due to self infliction, called smoking for too long, I have noticed when i cut back on the smoking my voice gets better, I need to put them away for good...easier said then done. I have tried several times to quit, the longest was 6 months. I was so mad at myself for ever lighting up again. Guest guest
Hi Penny, I'm no expert, but it would seem to me that hyperT is a vicious cycle. It appears that hyperT can be caused by nutritional deficiency. This causes your metabolism to go even faster than normal, and so INCREASES your nutritional requirements. So you start off in nutritional deficit, and as the illness gets worse your need for nutrition increases. I think a lot of us are more careful about what fuel we put in our cars than the fuel we put in our bodies. I think we need to eat lots of good food - leave out the sugar, the junk food, the caffeine, the white flour etc. Eat lots of preferably organic fruit and veg - has a lot to say about food in ithyroid.com Eating protein and a little fat with every meal has helped me a lot also. I was interested to see in ithyroid.com that hyperT can be induced in rats by putting them on a very low protein/or protein free diet. Probably it's a good idea to take supplements AND improve your diet. It seems like a lot of information to take in all at once, but just start little by little. Lots of people have gone into remission by using a combination of ATDS (anti thyroid drugs) combined with supplements and a good diet and lifestyle. So the drugs don't have to be for life! Personally, RAI ablation (I think that's what it is called - basically stuffing your thyroid by nuking it!) is something I would do only as a VERY LAST RESORT - the more I read about it the weirder it seems. And dangerous. I know it's hard not to worry, but by taking some positive action by researching info and taking steps to improve your basic health then hopefully you will begin to feel a little more positive. Good luck, >From: " Penny Pierce " <yourpicturehere@...> >Reply-hyperthyroidism ><hyperthyroidism > >Subject: Re: (no subject) >Date: Sun, 22 Sep 2002 06:28:14 -0400 > >Hi , My nutrition is terrible. Guest guest
, if it is OK...I will pray for her. Debby [ ] (no subject) Hi guys! Just a little favor. Some of you may remember my odd story from earlier this year. When I became ill, my Montana doctors did not know what to think and I got sicker and thinner and sicker and thinner. When my ALT count hit 3000 they finally decided to admit me int he hospital. I was turned away at 2000. My aunt from Atlanta shared my counts with my physician I grew up with. He told her to go get me and bring me back to Atlanta. So, my 87 year-old aunt, threw her half blind husband in her car and drove over 4000 miles to fetch me and bring me to an Atlanta specialist. I am doing much better and am at 5 mg with steady liver levels. But now, my aunt is the one who needs very positive energy and prayer. She has just been diagnosed with early signs of a heart condition. Tomorrow she undergoes a test to determine the problem and damage. I wish I could be there. This woman has done so much for me in my life. Please think of her tomorrow as she goes through this process. Thanks AIH dx'd 1/

Guest guest
Lori, you want to keep his seizures as short as possible so if you have a way of doing it I don't think any doctor would disagree with stopping it. They may question weather they actually are seizures and also make sure you are not restraining as this may cause injury. good luck.
