Guest guest
Found a new vegetable that's worth raving about, called "broccolini." The lady at our farmer's market said it was a cross between broccoli and asparagus. It's taste is delicious, somewhat milder than either asparagus or broccoli, and the stem texture is also in-between (very edible.) It turns brilliant bright green when steamed. Really pretty! I've seen broccolini at the grocery store but never tried it because it's so expensive there. We've been really blessed to have a farmer's market set up tent in our neighborhood every Wednesday morning. Their stuff is superior, and CHEAP. I wonder if such traveling markets are becoming popular elsewhere in the country. Ours is a big neighborhood gathering every week, and it's really fun to see everybody getting hooked on GOOD produce. It can't be hurting our waistlines, either. While the variety of produce at our groceries has increased, the quality and taste seems to have deteriorated (my opinion.) It's no wonder so many people THINK they don't like veggies. I'd be interested in hearing what others say about the quality and availability of produce in their parts of the country.
