I just rejoined a few days ago (was a member a long time ago) and am

wondering does anyone have any suggestions for low calorie salad

dressing? I do not want to buy one from the store that is full of

chemicals (no asparatame or anything I can't pronounce/find/make

myself). Lately, I have been using salsa but would like to have

something that would go with our everyday fare. I have asked some

friends with no luck. So I figured if anyone knows of a good

dressing, it's got to be someone here. :) Thanks!

:)

Marg: there are several recipes in our files. Just go to the home page at:

/ and click on files in the left

hand margin. Also , I sometimes use straight blueberry vinegar which is

delicious (thanks Iris). Click on our " links " in the left hand column of

the home page for info of how to find/buy blueberry vinegar.

The most recent issue (or maybe one back) of Vegetarian Times had

some salad dressing recipes that sounded good. Low fat - but not as

low fat (or low calorie) as the blueberry vinegar.

Way-back-when I had a recipe from Weight Watchers that involved

pureeing pimientos. Seems to me it also involved a little vinegar

and some mustard, but I've lost the recipe. I recall this being

very, very good - but at the price of pimentos at the time (in jars

like olives) it was a little pricey. I haven't priced them recently

to see if the situation has improved to the point of trying to figure

out what else went into it.

Just choose a blend of foods that taste good by themselves and have a

suitable texture and you won't need " salad dressing " . " salad " can

basically mean anything. Some pieces of juicy fruit can add some moisture

to a salad. Coconut can add some good fat and texture. You can always

modify the ingredients in your salsa to suit your taste and the rest of

the meal, using different herbs, etc.
