Guest guest
Hi Francesca, I obtained the following URL, http://www.floridata.com/ref/M/mons_del.cfm, from Google. Please look it up and read it; especially the last part about the fruit. The fruit can be an irritant to some people. The whole plant, a split-leaf Philodendron, is poisonous and only the ripe fruit is not. Is it fruit, veggie or grain? How's the taste? Suz: if this becomes populat, add to " CRon Checklist for Food Variety " ?
Guest guest
Thanks Ruth. According to the original article cited below, only the fruit is sold (which looks something like an ear of corn) and you let the kernels dry up and fall off before eating them. Otherwise you're not eating ripe fruit. I haven't found any yet although the article states that supermarkets have started carrying it. Of course if it's not that nutritious, it may not even be worth looking for. I was curious because of the additional variety it might add to the diet. on 8/7/2003 12:18 PM, Ruth at cccucc@... wrote: > Hi Francesca, > > I obtained the following URL, http://www.floridata.com/ref/M/mons_del.cfm, > from Google. Guest guest
Well I asked the folks down at our weekly farmer's market yesterday, most of whom happen to be Mexican. One of the vendors told me she would TRY to bring me some Mexican breadfruit next week, FROM Mexico...she's going home this weekend. She SAID it reminded her of pineapple, but this is the same lady who claimed that broccolini was a cross between broccoli and ASPARAGUS! Anyway, I'll let you know. Seeee...there are SOME advantages to living in Southern California...and SOON we'll have the Terminator as our governor. Imagine that. Guest guest
About variety and the checklist: are foods like peanuts, quinoa and currants not there because they're not healhy enough or because they've been omitted? -Zulu
