Guest guest
Alice: Welcome to the group! CRON should not be lumped with other " diet plans " . It is a way of eating that will make you healthier, and help you live longer (at this time, all animal studies point to that). Study our files (just go to the home page at: / and click on " files " ). And if you haven't read Dr Walford ( " Beyond the 120 Year Diet - available in most libraries) be sure and get a copy of his book. The book is an extremely interesting read. A lot of your questions will probably be answered. If you still have questions after that, we'll be happy to answer them. In the meantime, just follow the suggestions in the file: " CR Made Easy " , to start off and see if you don't start losing some weight (as a by-product of eating healthier). BTW how much is your actual weight and height? And how old are you? This info is needed in order to give you any advice. on 8/9/2003 2:05 AM, Alice Liddell at louse_liddell@... wrote: > I'm confused about exactly how many kcal I should consume each day. > According to my calculations my BMR is around 1380 at the moment, at > my goal weight it will be around 1300 kcal. I do realize the primary focus of this method is not to lose weight, but to live a longer healthier life... I just worded it poorly I get confused about the " eat 65% of what a person would eat unrestricted " . The figure keeps popping up at 1500-1800kcal. I would gain weight in that range, so it really wouldn't slow my metabolism at all. Thank you very much for your response! I will see if my library has a copy of that book. Guest guest
Sorry if my math was incorrect. I believe cutting to 1300 would be about 30% restricted. Francesca wrote: If you eat say 1800 cal ad lib and cut this to 1500 on CRON, you would be about 30% restricted.
Guest guest
" eat 65% of what a person would eat unresticted " that would mean eating 35% less. You're reading me backwards. I know a study in the '40s showed eating 50% less caused all kinds of psychotic behavior and mental disorders... I really don't need that, lol. Thanks for mentioning not going below 1000 kcal. I know everyones set point is unique, but I'm trying to figure out a safe range to start in. > > > I get confused about the " eat 65% of what a person would eat > > unrestricted " . Eating *exactly* the BMR is very difficult (I would say impossible) for several reasons: 1) because CR induces BMR variations 2) because you don't have a precision ballance at your house to be sure. 3) because you will be *so* hungry (believe me) that you will binge frequently. 4) because unless you have lot of fat stored this is unhealthy. 5) because at this CR level you can't exercise (need to stay still). My advice is to consult your phisician before trying this approach. Note that BMR is the minimum for any CR approach. Now I have a BMR of 1440 kcal and a caloric intake of 1440-1600 kcal. It's close to the minimum. Begin CR at a less radical level, say 2200 kcal/day. This is preety good IMHO. Don't try to be a perfectionist now.... -- GAndhi.
