Andy: thanks for your long explanatory post. Not off topic at all.

Anything related to living a long and healthy life is on topic. I've heard

about and read Simonton and Siegel and some of the others - and no doubt

some of our other list members have as well. My own take is that the power

of suggestion such as was outlined in the story/example you gave works for

some, but not for others. Something like the fact that some people can be

hypnotised and some can't. I seem to fall into the " can't " camp; for

example I've tried various herb therapies, acupuncture, chiropratic and

other therapies for maladies over the years that have worked for many

others, and never did a thing for me unfortunately - (but fortunately I

found CRON). Is your training in Zen Buddhism and meditation helping you

cope ? I'd love to be able to pass on anything I can to the beautiful,

bright, loving young mother I mentioned in my earlier post.

Please keep posting! Your posts are simply wonderful. And you have a

wealth of info to share.

Andy, I read about your lymphoma/chemo background in your original intro

to the list, and congratulate you on your success with the treatment so far.

I appreciate your comments about the "mindbody" (vs. mind body) as well

as the astounding power of the brain mechanisms. Personally, I believe it;

wish I could control it.

Originally, I thought you were talking about Enteric Neurological System,

which is sort of new science (relative). I've read stories of doorstep cures

based on this science. ENS explores intestinal neurons that are the same

as & function like those in the brain. For those interested, here's

simplified explanation: http://www.aikidoaus.com.au/dojo/docs/2nd_braina.htm

excerpt:

The gut's brain, known as the enteric nervous system, is located in sheaths

of tissue lining the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon. Considered

a single entity, it is a network of neurons, neurotransmitters and proteins

that zap messages between neurons, support cells like those found m the brain

proper and a complex circuitry that enables it to act independently,

learn, remember and, as the saying goes, produce gut feelings.

Nearly every substance that helps run and control the brain has turned up

in the gut. Dr. Gershon said. Major neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine,

glutamate, norepinephrine and nitric oxide are there. Two dozen small brain

proteins, called neuropepddes, are in the gut, as are major cells of the

immune system. Enkephalins, one class of the body's natural opiates, are

in the gut And in a finding that stumps researchers, the gut is a rich source

of benzodiazepines - the family of psychoacrive chemicals that includes such

ever popular drugs as Valium and Xanax.

OK. Those are some of the gory specifics. But you were more interested, I'm sure, in the mindbody aspects of "healing." There is a WEALTH of evidence that states-of-mind very directly affect the soma. And, in recent years, as a result of Pert's ground-

breaking research, there is some understanding of exactly how thoughts directly affect and interact with the body. This is soooo off-topic for this group that I won't go into details here, but suffice it to say that at least one of the transmitting "elements" has been discovered: neuropeptides. They apparent carry thought-

emotion from the arising site (in various locations in the brain) to other locales in the body. These can help heal or contribute to disease. So being able to somehow "control" thought-emotion may produce somatic healing, even far deeper than drugs, radiation and surgery. But it is never a sure-bet.

April, your posts to the group are just wonderful! I really appreciate your participation.

Ummm...are you the same person as Cronmouse?

Hugs

Thank you for the comment Suz, & also I appreciate your sharing about

your get together with other CRONnie members (a fun read). I'm not Cronmouse,

who has far more range & depth in the CRON science. I tip my bonnet

to him/her, as well as the others on this list that successfully manage this

lifestyle.

Wish I had your lucid command of communication. Congrats or not, it is

wonderful that that success occurred for you ... even without knowing

the source for it ... whether the treatment, your own wherewithal, or

even the variant & grade of lymphoma.

This stuff isn't weird, in the sense that it does occur (in varying

degrees). Such a complex mechanism in itself, on top of everyone's gene

variants, that I wonder if science could ever sort it all out. Thanks

for the book reference; I'll look for it. I'm not particularly a

Mercola fan, but have noted he promotes daily thought excercises for the

purpose of body influence. Even Robbins (infomercials)

promotions are based on methods of creating beliefs.

In the end, it's as you say, there are no guarantees. CRON is one

effort used to encourage continuous thriving ... and we hope for the best.
