Pierre and others:

Thank you for all your emails and direct approach/wisdom. While I appreciate Pierre's style, I am still confused with the disease as are most people and doctors we call. If antibiotics are the simple answer (as convey'd in most of the emails), then why is scleroderma a problem? If the answer is so easy then why do so many people seem confused about it or why is every doc NOT prescribing the treatment? What am I missing? Regardless-if she goes on antibiotics tomorrow-what do I do if she has another attack tomorrow or the next day? If I call 911 they don't know what to do? I'm not sure anyone knows what the immediate reaction should be. Do I just stand there and watch her gasp for air? I can't believe that the antibiotic will fix her immediately??? What am I not being told? What are the side effects of the antibiotics? .......... The answers to these questions may be in the study you sent.....I will reread all the emails tonight. I'm just trying to learn. Thank you for your time and patience.

I should have added a few items to my last post.. my rheumy suggested a PFT, lung function test to see how my lungs were doing with the SD, basically to assess damage and get a baseline..then my very wonderful DR..DR Whitman in NJ also had me do a hi Resolution Cat Scan of my lungs to check for fibrosis...etc..common in Scleroderma..another rheumy wanted me to do a barium swallow to assess the damage, if any, and to get a baseline, I presume for damage in my esophagus..The swallow I have not done as it was explained to me, the test is for diagnosis and there is very little that can be done anyway..so I figured why swallow the barium, which could have potential side effects...Some Scleroderma patients need oxygen at high exertion times and/or at night...just more thoughts..maybe you can get your Mom in to see a pulmonary DR..hope this helps, take care, DEBB

Ellen,

Given time you will come to understand the approaches, and prejudices, each

of us harbor regarding the various aspects of medical care. There are some

basic " givens " for _most_ people in the United States today:

1. Allopathy is the only " true " medicine

(Allopathic physicians are M.D.'s, the AMA is an

association of Allopaths.)

2. ANY other approach is considered " alternative " in

kind words and by some " suicidal/psychotic " in less

than kinds words

3. In the United States by Constitutional protection each

individual has the absolute right to determine their

own course in most issues, including their personal

health care unless they are certifiably Non Compos Mentis,

a legal finding determined by a court of law that one

is mentally incompetent.

With those items given, it helps to understand also that virtually ALL

allopathic medicines (Rx drugs & OTC drugs) begin their life at some stage

as " natural remedies " but are then refined and separated in laboratories to

such an extent that they can be patented and by virtue of patent ownership,

produce a profit, usually a very healthy one. (Some would consider it

bloated.)

Why do more physicians NOT use the AP for Scleraderma? Because the AP was

not taught as an answer to the rheumatic diseases after the 50's when the

decision was made to pursue " relief " drugs (read: more money) versus " cures "

(read: no money after cure.)

You can look 50 ways from Sunday and will find numerous volumes supporting

opposing sides of the very issue your mother raises, but specifics in the

statistics speak for themselves: More people in the US die every day from R

x drug complications than nearly any other cause; almost 80% of hospital

beds in the US are filled by patients due to complications from Rx

medications (for those so inclined go check Morbidity & Mortality Weekly and

various other publications.)

--- SHORT ANSWER:

There is no money in the AP as it is a step to cure.

There are trillions in 'pain relief & disease mgmt.'

" Cured " diseases produce no residual income from continuing visits, tests

and drug purchases.

" Managed " diseases produce unending residual income streams from follow-up

visits, continual testing, and infinite drug purchases, refills, and

migrations from one type of drug to another, from one type of treatment to

another, and almost always to newer, more expensive drugs.

--- Re: Pierre's comments:

Pierre states in a very straightforward way his personal opinion. I propose

a foil: Your mother does not want to take these Rx meds precisely because

she does NOT want to die and her refusal to do so, even in the face of being

very sick and in the face of overwhelming societal pressure, displays both

mental competence and the courage and depth of her convictions that

following the Rx medicine route will be a sure path to death.

Is there a natural alternative which would perform in the same fashion as

the antibiotics which is acceptable to her? Most probably, yes.

Will it have the " double-blind pharmaceutically-funded studies " which Pierre

and many others of a like mind prefer? Most probably, no... neither did Dr.

Brown's work - for which his fellow Allopaths labeled him a " Quack. "

(Surprise to those who thought otherwise! O'Dell came much later and used a

different protocol.)

Whose choice is it?

Here you should have no issue. You would not have life without your Mother.

It is her choice and her wishes you are bound by your very existence to

honor, not dishonor. In the end, we all die. Death is not some foreign

thing. No one can run away from it forever. Neither is it something to be

courted nor treated lightly. It is a doorway through which we will all

pass, a very common thread. She deserves your love, your respect, your

dedication to *her* wishes -- not Pierre's, not even yours.

If you prefer to entrust your life and well-being to Allopaths, that is your

decision. Pierre obviously prefers that and he has much company - in fact

the majority - at least in North America. However, if your mother prefers

not to entrust these people in that way, that is her choice and absent a

finding by a court of law that she is mentally incompetent to make such a

decision, you are bound to honor her choice.

Please do take the time to read and educate yourself. That is the main thing you can do for both your mother and for yourself. There are many reasons why doctors won't prescribe antibiotics for so-called immune diseases (some of us, like myself, don't believe they are immune-related at all). Some because they don't feel there is enough research out there supporting the fact that antibiotics do indeed help people and some because they don't know that antibiotics are a safe, viable option.

I doubt there are many doctors who prescribe to Geoff's reasoning...which is because antibiotics won't make them money. I work for a health care system in Minnesota and work with physicians each and every day. These men and women DO care about their patients, but many are forced to treat patients as numbers and have little time to update and improve their knowledge base because of today's HMO-based system of health care. Yes, there are bad physicians, but most are decent humans.

You CAN find doctors within the system who are open to learning. My doctor is a perfect example. When I told her about my decision to follow the AP, she listened, took the information I gave her and actually read it. She didn't get back to me for a month, but when she did, she thanked me for the information and told me she was excited and happy to help me explore this therapy. We've both learned together over the last 8 months and are both open to exploring even other arenas....including yeast, dairy, leaky gut and gluten sensitivities. She even made sure to follow-up with the insurance company to explain why she prescribed the pelleted form of doryx so I wouldn't denied coverage for the more-expensive non generic version.

AP does not work quickly! It may for a very few individuals, but for most people it takes months and sometimes years before people get their full lives back. Most people usually see some sort of improvement after 3 to 4 months. Luckily, I saw improvement after only a month and have had very few relapses (flares) since going on AP.

Is AP right for your mother? Only she and you can decide that. But it does sound like some form of immediate action is required. Maybe as you relay all your learn with your mother, she may feel comforted knowing that she can wean herself off the more harmful drugs after she improves. Many people here have had to take the disease-modifying drugs just to get to a place of normalcy before being able to start the AP regimen.

Good luck in your research. Be sure to read the great information at www.roadback.org and www.rheumatic.org. You also have a great resource of knowledge here in this group. Among us are people who have just about every " immune " related disease you can think of. Feel free to continue to post questions and seek help. We're here to help each other.

Lastly, there are answers out there that have nothing to do with current medical protocol. The Lorenzo's (of Lorenzo's Oil fame) know this all too well. Keep seeking answers and wisdom from your higher power.

(As a sidebar note: As I mentioned, I work for a state-wide healthcare system. I've freely shared my experience with my coworkers and will be helping to develop an article for newsletter which talks about the miracle of antibiotic therapy. Slowly, but surely, if we all act as ambassadors of this protocol, WE WILL BE HEARD!)

Misunderstanding of my post...

The issue with individual physicians is a matter of staying in business,

i.e., not getting sued.

The money issue rests in the research laboratories, colleges and other

institutions funded by the pharmaceutical marketing and accounting sections.

It has very little to do with individual physicians. Individual physcians

have mostly two issues to deal with:

egos too large to fit in a wheelbarrow (which enabled

them to label Brown a quack); and

how to fight off lawyers armed with lawsuits heard by

uninformed jurists who ascribe near diety to the AMA

and their " party line. "

I have done a ton of research, recovering my children from autism, ADHD,

Bipolor, OCD, etc. and what I have to say is basically close to what Hulda

says. Its all caused from pathogens and toxins. Lyme disease and Bartonella

and

worms, mycoplasma, protozoa, and/or viruses, and even yeast. I read its

probably necessary to treat for all of those, and add in some detoxers.

Lithium

orotate is something that works good for mood swings and impulsive anger in

my family which I read is from the pathogen wastes. We use it to protect the

brain while the pathogens are being killed. Often you don't need to know

which pathogens, because many herbs will kill many pathogens. Like we take

Resveratrol, and it kills bad bacteria and yeast. And we also take Turmeric

which boosts the immune system in general and kills bad bacteria. I also read

the lithium orotate will kill some pathogens, although I do not rely on it to

irradicate them.
