In 1999, Consumers Union did an extensive study of pesticide levels

in produce, comparing overall levels in both domestic and foreign

supplies. You can find a summary of the report as well as a link to

the whole (70+ page) report at

Helpful in the full report is a list of the worst pesticide level

produce. I think it's helpful in deciding what to spend the extra

money on for organic produce. I don't think

avocados are mentioned but maybe that's a good thing!

I don't know that he lists it, but a good source of compatible vegetables

and plants to discourage pests (depends on your point of view) can be found

in Jeavons: How to Grow More Vegetables in a Smaller Area Than You Ever

Thought Possible (or something very similar. My copy is hiding someplace so

I can't give you the exact title, but at least the first 5 words are

correct.) It is an interesting concept I hope to try next year; I'm still

working on getting a spot cleared.
