It puts the alarmist news (no fault of Francesca's!) in perspective. I first learned of the plastic/microwave " danger " when the email about the student (mentioned in the link above) reached my Inbox. I immediately started using a ceramic bowl and covering it with a paper towel (I'd also heard this advice from Dr. Hoffman - a NYC MD, internist, with his own practice in integrative medicine, The Hoffman Center and a nightly call-in medical talk show in NYC). From my experience, the paper towel (or two) doesn't seal in the heat very well and I found that I had to double or triple my microwave times. Eventually I gave up, returned to using microwavable-safe saran wrap, and just made certain that it was never in direct contact with my veggies (that's the main reason I use a microwave: heating many bags of mixed frozen veggies). Still, I had a minimal concern about the the water which drips from the saran wrap down onto the veggies, but the article at snopes.com points out that there is no substance to that concern. (And anyway, I 'beat' cancer once, so...I figure with a CRON diet, I can beat it again! Hahaha!!!) Seriously, however, I'd like to point out that one can get so wrapped up in protecting one's self from EVERY imaginable danger that one misses the joy of living. In saying this I'm not advocating doing foolish or risky things, but there are people " out there " (in cyber land) who see threats to their well-being around every corner, under every bed and inside of every closet. I'm not suggesting there is anything (or something) " wrong " with these people: this is the (threatening) world they see and create. For them, such dangers appear very real. I'm simply pointing out that one need not accept their version of " reality. " After all, we each create our own reality out of our own perceptions, memories, biochemistry, and " wiring.
