Michele: this is far from a typical CRON diet. If you haven't read

Walford, take a look at the files which describe the kinds of foods CRONIES

eat. What about green salads? They're practically a must for a CRONIE.

Aside from your one apple, you don't have any other fresh veggies or fruits

in your diet.

Have you tried eating a bigger breakfast and a smaller dinner e.g. switching

around when you eat the most calories? That works for some people. Have

you tried any exercise? Also I would highly recommend reading Walford's

book and coming to your own conclusions about how to change your diet.

Also, although this is what you ate today, I would suggest writing down

everything you eat for at least one week. It could be you're " snacking "

(those cloud cookies are delicious!) and not realizing it. Happens to the

best of us.

Francesca,

I said nothing about my diet being ON...I didn't even say it was CR. What I

said was it only takes 1000 cal per day to maintain me as I am and I would

have to go lower to actually be calorie restricted. But I am new at this so

I may be misunderstanding the ideas here.

What I was trying to say is that the 1000 cal may be CR for most people but

I would have to go lower and I don't know if I want to do that.

I don't usually have a tendancy to snack unless i am over grandmas. Gram

always has cookies, one of my weaknesses. There is an unopened bag of

pretzels on top of the fridge that have been there for at least 6 months.

But I do have a tendancy to binge when I get a taste for a particular food.

Most unnoticed calories sneek into my diet in beverages.

As far as excercize goes...I wish I could. My joints are all disintegrating.

I would love to take my dog for a walk.

I am scheduled for arthroscopic surgery next Tuesday to clean out the loose

chunks and file the rough spots to try and get me through a few more months.

I don't even train him for obedience anymore because I am so unstable on

uneven surfaces that almost fell on him this past spring.

Hi Michele: I hope you'll pardon my misunderstanding you. I still think

it might be worthwhile trying CRON, adding fresh veggies/fruits to your diet

and moving more of the calories to the start of your day. What do you have

to lose? I would toss the pretzels and any other temptations that are empty

calories hanging around your house. For beverages, Warren's fruit punch,

and or lemonade or limade sweetened with splenda are delicious.

Good luck with the surgery!

Please take my suggestions as a sincere desire to help.

I can't find Warens fruit punch recipe in the files. Could you please post

it. If I remember right it was a small amount of frozen juice concentrate a

quart of water and sweetner to taste, but I cant remember the exact

portions. Also, I was wondering if there is a difference between the frozen

juice concentrates and the nonfrozen concentrates.

I was going to save the pretzals for the birds this winter.

Hi Michele:

There certainly are many reports where people say even if they eat

very small amounts of calories they still are unable to lose weight.

This is difficult to understand from a calories in/calories out

analysis.

But if it is true, then it seems that once an individual exceeds a

certain weight threshold something in the body changes

its 'thermostat' (to take a poor analogy) so that thereafter losing

weight becomes very very difficult. SO, if this is the way things

are it really points out the importance for people to NEVER get

anywhere near that weight threshold, wherever it is, if it exists.

In other words major, perhaps life long, problems will result if

weight is even once permitted to get out of control. Perhaps kids

should be taught this.

The other point I would make on this is that I have seen how even

VERY nutrition-conscious parents are unable to recognize it when one

of their kids becomes grossly over weight (presumably because it

creeps up on them very gradually). I know because it happened in my

family. The parents were in disbelief when I told them that one of

their kids (only one of the two) was GROSSLY overweight. But they

took notice and fixed the problem, and years later when looking at

photos of the kid from that period remarked that they are dumbfounded

that they couldn't see it at the time.

The lesson from that, in my opinion, is that people should perhaps be

less sheepish about informing their friends if they consider a kid to

be over weight. Difficult to do tactfully, though.
