Guest guest
As I recall, Eri told us nothing about what her diet was like (only that she was on CRON) or lifestyle when she gave us this info about her liver enzymes. How about more info Eri? on 11/15/2003 12:55 PM, apricot85 at apricot85@... wrote: > Liver: I have read from others who have claimed good success with the > herb Milk Thistle. Guest guest
Whoops, I apologize for not including more info. I eat about 3 larger meals and 3 smaller snacks per day, all consisting primarily of raw vegetables. Included, as well, in my diet is roughly 2 servings of non-fat, plain yogurt per day, several servings of legumes and a half-handful of nuts. To go with this I will use vinegar, herbs and spices, and mustard. I will usually have about 3 pieces of fruit a day, usually cantaloupe, apple, orange, pineapple and papaya. A few times per week I will have egg whites or fish. I do not drink coffee or soda but include plenty of green and herbal teas as well as additional dietary supplements (soluble fiber, vitamin e/c, digestive enzymes and multi-vitamin). I am not currently on any medications or OTC drugs. I walk every day (about 30 minutes) and get to the gym several times a week, doing low- intensity cardio and a strengthening program. I am 68.5 inches tall and weigh about 126lbs. I estimate that I intake about 1300-1400 calories at this time. My blood glucose is 64, blood pressure is 100/60 and resting pulse is 70. I am wondering about the lower limit to CR (where you can achieve maximum life extension). I have no idea how far down I should aim in calorie intake or the other factors. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks again! Eri > > > >> I have been having problems with my liver - I don't > >> drink but I have elevated enzymes and do not know the cause of this. Guest guest
Sounds good to me!! Just a few simple suggestions: Since you seem to be a vegetarian, the only thing I might suggest is some fish oil supplementation (if it's not against your ethics) for the many benefits, Also if you never cook anything you may not be getting the benefits of such nutrients as lycopene which is released with cooked tomatoes and a bit of fat (such as olive oil). Raw tomatoes don't cut it. on 11/15/2003 2:20 PM, gumbyscousin at erica.gentry@... wrote: > > Whoops, I apologize for not including more info. > I eat about 3 larger meals and 3 smaller snacks per day, all > consisting primarily of raw vegetables. Guest guest
Eri... Lots of things cause " elevated enzymes " and low elevations of enzymes may not be of any major importance but you should get an answer as to how important this really is. Many people take SAMe (s-adenosylmethionine) for minor liver problems and you can buy it OTC at places like Costco...relatively cheaply. Google SAMe for more information and check the web pages of some of the suppliers. Welcome to the CRON lifestyle. Rob Message: 1 Date: Fri, 14 Nov 2003 12:47:32 -0500 From: " Eri Gentry " <erica.gentry@...> Subject: New, with questions Hello there, all. I am a 20 y/o university student in CT, USA and have been practicing CR for about 1.5 years (rather strictly for the past few months). It is good to have found this group and my first few days have already proven quite informative. Thank you, everyone. First off, I was wondering about a figure of total daily calories for CR. Dr. Walford's site has calcuated 1400 for me but does anyone know of any other (perhaps quite comprehensive) calculators? Does anyone know how to determine a good measure of optimal glucose level or have any information about what this level means and how it affects health? Mine has been decreasing steadily (I *think* this is a good thing) but I am concerned that there could be a point which is too low. I want to increase life span, not hurt my body. Hehe, another concern: I have been having problems with my liver - I don't drink but I have elevated enzymes and do not know the cause of this. Does anyone have any recommendations on a possible detox or other option? OK, LAST THING... I know this is a bit cutesy to ask, but is there anyone in CT or the Northeast who might be interested in being a CR " buddy " ? Actually, I would even love to speak with people online (I use AIM and MSN) to go over issues (I wouldn't abuse with silly gossip chat =P). Please, please e-mail me if you are interested in this. Thank you so much and a special note of appreciation to Francesca for inviting all newcomers to speak out. =) Take care, all. Eri
Guest guest
Hi a, Welcome to the group. The only thing that I have found that really helps me is resting. I get up fix breakfast for hubby then go bqck to bed for a couple of hours. Then I get up and start to do whatever has to be done for the. I generally lay down and try to at least meditate if not sleep for an hour in the afternoon. That usually gives me th energy to get thrpugh the evening. I am not working now and I can do this. But even if you are woking try to rest as much as possible. I know it sounds crazy but I do feel better overall when I get the needed rest. Guest guest
Yep, agreed. Fatigue is one of the worst components of this disease. I sleep 10-12 hours per 24 as well. On weekends, because of the MTX, I sleep 18 hours on Saturday/Sunday. My fatigue started a year ago after a bad flu which I thought at the time, I just never recovered from. Then 3 months ago the physical pains started in earnest. I just try to rest whenever I can. I'm learning to not push myself. Good luck! Kim > > I was diagnosed in 2003 and the fatigue for me has only gotten worse. When I told my rheumy that I needed 12 hours sleep per 24 hours I think he felt that was excessive, but that is the way my life is. I am fortunate in that I was able to sell my home a little over 1 year ago for an inflated price and I relocated in a warmer climate with reasonable home prices. > > When I am very stressed, required more sleep than ever. The only time that I feel " normal " is when I am on steroids. I don't require as much sleep and my joints don't hurt as much. > >
