Guest guest
Hello Ria, Francesca, and CR ALL: I certainly agree with Francesca that supplements are needed to protect bones. Some nutrients (esp for bones) are especially hard to obtain from foods alone, which can occur when calories are low. For older people, and for those concerned about preserving bone-mass, extra food supplements are required. I have a confirmed osteoporosis condition, with a DEXA bone-density T-score for the lower lumbar back of -3.3. This poor bone density ranks me in the lowest 1 percent of all people. It demands that I take extra bone-building supplements. But what supplements to take????? A combination supplement. What supplement manufacturers???? Two or more DIFFERENT ones to be on the safe side. How much ????? About 1000 mg elemental, balanced with magnesium, that also includes boron, manganese, Vit-D, etc.... Minerals should be equally absorbable in order to be balanced... Avoid oxides, sulfates, etc that are poorly absorbed... Always choose the ones that are scientifically proven to be most absorbable. And don't choose bone-meal, coral, etc !! For anyone interested in a specific bone-building program, of specific manufacturer's products (there are hundreds of them, many with impressive names that are terribly poor), contact me off-list for some ideas. I am not a doctor, but have recommendations based on doctor's advice. I even have the costs listed to show how inexpensive a good program is... and it is not very costly at all to maintain a good program that builds bones (as measured by DEXA bone-density T-scores). -- Warren =================================== =========================== -----Original Message----- From: Francesca Skelton [mailto:fskelton@...] Sent: Wednesday, September 10, 2003 8:32 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: interesting article for you vegetarians Take supplements??? ========================================= ========================== > On 9/10/2003 11:22 AM, riabrownlow at riabrownlow@... wrote: > > Loved the article about COK.
