Hi Francesca! Yes, In pekilotermic organism a decrease in temperature leads to extension of life. There are Walford studies on fish. But I'm searching the right paper to present to you. Now I cite only this (more later): Studies in Monkeys: Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 1996 Apr 30;93(9):4159-64 Calorie restriction lowers body temperature in rhesus monkeys, consistent with a postulated anti-aging mechanism in rodents. Lane MA, Baer DJ, Rumpler WV, Weindruch R, Ingram DK, Tilmont EM, Cutler RG, Roth GS. This link is specially for Theo: http://www.biologyofhumanaging.com/Topics/CR_nt.htm A survey This one is quite interesting too: http://www.methuselah.org/offenefragen.htm -- Gandhi. In the last link ( http://www.methuselah.org/offenefragen.htm#f15 ) I quote: 15. How can we turn down our body temperature? Research on differnt animals showed a relation between body core temperature and life span (hibernation, some fishes). Maybe a caloric restriction in our nutrition will lead to a lowering of temperature. Several experiments with different medicines on humans were already done, especially by Barnett Rosenberg. There are studies by Walford and Weindruch too... Just wait me to find them ! ) -- GAndhi.
Guest guest
Gandi: the first link says that CR results in low body temp. That we already know. You originally stated that lower body temp increases longevity; I don't think that's the same thing. The second link is hard to follow as the person's command of the English language is not so good - it looks suspicious as a source of scientific info. However the article in LEF (a reputable magazine) looks interesting afa low body temp and longer life and also reminded me to try melatonin again for more restful sleep.
