Guest guest
Hi folks: I hope no one will be offended if I (a newbie around here) offer a suggestion for a slight modification to the information currently on the home page. It is, I grant you, a bit of a detail. But it could be considered an important detail. The wording which, imo, might benefit from some modification is the part that says: " .......... the only scientifically proven way to enhance health and longevity. ....... " Probably all of us here can agree that, based on a considerable body of serious evidence, CR is the only scientifically proven way to *** extend the maximum lifespan *** of many species. But I submit CR is not the ** ONLY ** way to enhance health and longevity. Indeed, my recollection is that in BT120YD Dr. Walford acknowledges that there are myriad ways to to enhance health and longevity. (The word 'longevity' according to the dictionaries I have consulted simply means 'long life'. It does not have any special meaning relating to the extension of maximum lifespan). For example, health and length of life can be enhanced not only by CRON but also by refraining from smoking and avoiding second hand smoke. They can be enhanced by making sure you do not have radon in your house; by installing smoke detectors; by drinking alcoholic beverages only in moderation; by avoiding the consumption of hydrogenated vegetable oils (and, of course by avoiding a multitude of other substances that have come to be called 'foods' but which have been demonstrated to be thoroughly unhealthy); by driving while applying one's full attention to the task; by going out of one's way to eat food products which serious research has shown have, sometimes quite remarkable, health benefits; by making a habit of not crossing busy streets with eyes closed; etc. So, my suggestion is that rather than saying CR is the only scientifically proven way to improve health and longevity, that section of the home page might instead read something like: " A considerable body of serious scientific evidence now shows that, in every species so far studied, CR is the only method proven to extend maximum life span. In many species the extension in lifespan observed has been to the equivalent, in human terms, of an age of 155 years. At the same time the incidence of diseases of all kinds, including those accounting for the principal causes of death in humans - cancer and heart disease, is greatly reduced " . This is just a suggestion. I would certainly be interested to hear what others have to say on the matter. Thanks. Rodney.
