Guest guest
This is Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Although many authentic jewish recipes are laden with unhealthy ingredients (shmaltz or chicken fat is one such ingredient), there are a few which are truly " CRON-like " . Among them is Tsimmis, which Jews eat now to " insure " a " sweet " year ahead. You might want to try this hearty and satisfying nutritious dish. Tsimmis Lean cut of beef (optional - in fact I make this dish strictly vegetarian) Sweet Potatoes Carrots Prunes Apples Cinnamon Nutmeg Ginger dash of wine spoonful of honey (optional) Use as many or as few of the above ingredients as you like. Peel carrots and sweet potatoes and cut into chunks. Add prunes and peeled apples in chunks. Put all in a stew pot and cover with water. Season liberally to taste. Simmer for about 40 minutes or until tender and sweet. Happy New Year!
