Well, Walford does advocate exercise quite strongly (though he points out

that in OB/OB mice, the longest lifespans were achieved with the sedentary

mice, presumably due to more extreme CR) -- I think he points out an upper

limit for beneficial exercise, measured in the form of running. I'd have to

check it, but I think it was somewhere in the vicinity of a moderate 30

minute jog three times per week... Beyond that, there were no greater

health benefits, and too much is definitely not good either.

I think moderate resistance training is strongly advocated as well, and it

was certainly discussed ad nauseum on the other list a few years ago with

relation to osteoporosis and maintaining muscle mass while doing CR.

Personally, I was happiest when my job entailed much walking, a fair amount

of lifting, and I was walking 90 minutes per day to & from work. I have to

make a conscious effort to get that much exercise now, since my work is

extremely sedentary...

Cheers,

On page 247 of BT120yrD: " I recommend spending 3 or 4 15-20 minute sessions

each week at an aerobic excercise......

On page246: " exercise......is aimed at balancing the positive effects of

physical fitness on disease suseptibility against the potentially negative

effects of exercise and increased energy turnover on the generation of free

radicals. "

My personal exercise choices factor in quality as well as length of life...

if someone told me I could live years longer if I breathed pure oxygen while

floating motionless upside down in a tank of red wine.... well you get the

point.

Properly done we can eat cake on our birthday, and enjoy many more

opportunities to eat cake..... be sure to grab some life as it goes by.
