I used to order (take-out) vegetarian dishes such as " Broccoli in Garlic Sauce w/steamed tofu, " but the stuff came floating in a puddle of oil and grease. I would drain the mixture in a colander before mixing it with the rice (brown), but the oil had " infused " into the vegetables/tofu. I'll admit, it tasted mighty good, but there were certainly a LOT of extra (and unnecessary) calories in this method of preparation. I continue to order such dishes (one of my favorites is mixed Chinese vegetables in curry sauce), but now I have the cooks steam the veggies (and tofu) and get the sauce " on the side " in a separate container. That way, I can add the minimal amount of sauce to enjoy the flavor while minimizing the greasy calories. (I've been doing this, along with pretty stringent ON for about four months now and I've lost a solid 20 lbs -- my waist has gone from a 38 to a 35 (and since I continue to weight lift 3 x per week most of the weight loss must be bodyfat -- and the great thing is that I am *never* hungry! Apparently the TYPE of food one consumes plays a significant role in how long it takes for hunger to reappear. A combination of low GI foods, with plenty of fiber, along with a modest amount of lean protein, seems to delay the " hunger response, " at least in my physiology.)
