Guest guest
: how old are you? How tall are you? What do you now weigh? Did you lose the weight fast or slow? All such facts are relevant. Yes, CR and even just ON should benefit auto-immune diseases just as Walford states in BT120Y diet. on 12/1/2003 10:42 PM, gn_montag at armadllo@... wrote: > Hello, > > I have been a long-time reader of this list, without much to > contribute. Guest guest
P.S. to : Have you added any new foods to your diet in the last 5 months? Examples might be certain nuts, flax seeds or other CRON/exotic food that you didn't eat before? For example, a couple of years ago, I added a Brazil nut a day to my diet because of the health benefits of selenium. I was fine at first, but after a few months, I began to get a slight rash on my arms. The rash got worse and worse until I finally figured out (myself) that I was allergic to the nuts. I almost wound up in the hospital. By the time I figured out what the problem was, I was completely swollen all over and was on steroids. on 12/2/2003 7:57 AM, Francesca Skelton at fskelton@... wrote: >> I've been sick for about 5 months with a kind of >> rashy/arthritis/fatigue kind of thing and my doctors are stumped but >> think that it could possibly be the beginnings of some ty
Guest guest
could be negatively affected by all that fish oil, which conveys a huge amount of vitamin A. Peg
Guest guest
I am 34 years old. 5'11 " tall. I now weigh approximately 170 lbs. I lost the weight over a period of about 15 months. I know slower would have been better, but I had other concerns such as hypertension and diabetes. BP is now normal (about 110/65, pulse 55 whenever it's checked), as is blood sugar (usually in the 90's). I am on no prescription medications. As for supplements I currently take a multivitamin, 400 iu vitamin e, and 6g of fish oil, 1800 mg of curcumin for mild arthritis in my spine. Although I have taken those supplements for over 3 years, I went off all of them for nearly a month to see if it made any difference in my condition. It didn't. I try and get everything else I need from a low-glycemic, mostly whole foods diet consisting of a wide variety of vegetables both cooked and raw, legumes, small amount of whole grains and nuts and seeds, lower g.i. fruit, some egg whites, fish and poultry, plus a little lean red meat maybe once a week. I get maybe 1800 calories on an average day. Exercise is between 30 min and an hour of cardio 5 times a week, along with a little weight training. Had read BT120Y diet/Anti Aging Plan several years ago. Couldn't remember if he mentioned auto-immune disease. Thanks! > > > Hello, > > > > I have been a long-time reader of this list, without much to > > contribute. I do appreciate having this resource. Guest guest
Nothing I can really think of. Did increase my consumption of red tea. So maybe I'll try cutting that out for a while. I do know that I can't tolerate flaxseed. It's a shame because I really liked the fat-free cottage cheese and flax snack someone on here suggested. Whenever I ate it in any quantity, I got peculiar sensations of heat running down my limbs. That was enough to put me off of it! > > >> I've been sick for about 5 months with a kind of > >> rashy/arthritis/fatigue kind of thing and my doctors are stumped but > >> think that it could possibly be the beginnings of some ty
Guest guest
: you're very young for any arthritic conditions. Is this your family history? I don't think a month is long enough to go off of your supplements. I would think at least 6 weeks or even more would be better. Personally the only supplement I now take is melatonin - preferring to get my nutrients from diet. Have you tried ginger? It's an anti-inflammatory and sometimes recommended for arthritis.. Read Dr Weil's website and books for some unorthodox (and harmless) possible remedies such as ginger. on 12/2/2003 8:03 PM, gn_montag at armadllo@... wrote: > > I am 34 years old. 5'11 " tall. Guest guest
Francesca: Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, there is a family history of arthritis on my mother's side. Particularly in the spine. I get a lot of fresh ginger in my diet and like the powder in hot beverages. Reading Dr. Weil's 8 Weeks to Optimum Health got me started on that. I'll consider a longer hiatus from supplementation. > : you're very young for any arthritic conditions. Guest guest
Thanks. Hadn't considered that. Will take a longer break from all supplements and see what happens. > could be negatively affected by all that fish oil, which conveys a huge > amount of vitamin A. Guest guest
Thanks Warren, I used to have a irrational disregard for my health. I ate whatever I wanted and led a sedentary life. Maybe some people have the genes to cope with that lifestyle. I didn't. The path of least resistance led me to morbid obesity. In September of 2000, I had some kind of a fit while camping. That resulted in seeing doctors and having tests. I realized then I had made myself pretty sick and was almost certainly cutting my life short. I made kind of a pact with myself that I'd never again do anything or participate in any lifestyle that would intentionally damage my health. Then I set out to better educate myself about health and nutrition. Walford's book was one of the first that I read. Not being debilitated by obesity is a great freedom that I don't take for granted. Obesity, diabetes, arthritis and hypertension are prominent in my family history and I have a big impetus to try to offset the effects of those any way I can. My wife has been very supportive and adopted this philosophy with me. She's also in better health now. Sure the grocery bill is much higher. We spend a lot more time chopping vegetables and cooking. But it's been worth every dollar and minute. Life's too precious to squander because fast/junk food is convenient or smells good! > > > > I am 34 years old. 5'11 " tall.
