A few surprises from Laurel Creek Farm today... I bought my first

fresh pheasant, and baked it for supper tonight. (It was tasty, but

not worth the $15 I spent on it). Also got 4 chickens, 10 dozen

eggs, 4 pounds ground beef... and he finally remembered to bring me

some pork fat! It was a 3.5 pound bag, and when I asked him how

much, he said " the fat is free " . He found 3 pounds of chicken livers

for me in one of his deep freezers, and he says there are more that

need to be unthawed from the bottom of another freezer. He asked me

how many I wanted, and I said, " as many as you can find! " These will

have to last me until Spring, when he will process another batch of

pasture-fed chickens.

He's also going to bring me some free cow tongue next time (my wife

likes it... I've never tried it, but I'm game!) Everything came out

to about $100, which is comparable to what I would spend at a regular

grocery store. He only comes every 2nd and 4th Saturday to my city,

so I stock up! I am building up lots of stuff in the deep freeze as

well, because I usually don't eat as much as I buy each time.

I encourage everyone to find a good grass-fed farm in your area, and

not try to buy this stuff at a grocery store, which is more

expensive. It's only about 1/3 more in price for me, and VERY

tasty! It's also very economical, because now I'm eating the fat

instead of throwing it away.

Rambling...

Doug
