Guest guest
For those who are curious, here is a little info I have managed to find about resveratrol. Everything you ever wanted to know about the substance: http://virology.med.uoc.gr/IJMM/2002/volume10/number6/755-760.pdf Organic wine seems to have twice as much of it when compared to regular wine: http://www.mindfully.org/Food/Distinguishing-Organic-Wines.htm NY wines seem to have more than any other region: http://www.news.cornell.edu/Chronicle/98/2.5.98/resveratrol.html Peanuts seem to contain more of it per ounce than wine: http://forum.lef.org/forum15/topic24423.html The reason we might not be seeing 150 year old humans in France is because of the amount of it needed for therapeutic dosing: " [Therapeutic Dosages] Because there haven't been any clinical studies, the optimal therapeutic dosage hasn't been established for resveratrol. Based on animal studies, a reasonable therapeutic dosage of resveratrol might be about 500 mg daily. Resveratrol doses for inhibition (i.e. assistance in the prevention) of cancer and cardiovascular disease are 5mg or 10mg daily. Doses for the treatment of the same are 15mg to 30mg daily. " - http://www.tropicsweather.com/wwwboard/messages/740.html Resveratrol does not appear to affect reproductive abilities, despite its oestrogenic properties: http://www.rbej.com/content/1/1/30 Tiger cane (Polygonum cuspidatum) is the most abundant source of resveratrol in nature. It also appears in raspberries and mulberries: " Res is found in many fruits and nuts, but is especially abundant in red grapes, mulberries, raspberries and peanuts, the scientist said. " - http://cancer.med.unc.edu/news/externalnews-archives/research_05302000.htm It seems to have neuroprotective properties: " Our study suggests resveratrol is a potent neuroprotective agent in focal cerebral ischemia " - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve & db=PubMed & list_uids=1\ 1508648 & dopt=Abstract Getting 500mg of resveratrol daily would be quite a tedious affair. The most I could find in one capsule was 16mg, which means about 30 capsules would be needed. It would cost about $5 per day to consume 480mg ($10 per 60 caps from many sources): http://www.jarrow.com/products/Resveratrol.htm I'm sure you're all familiar with Luigi Cornaro who drank 14 ounces of red wine per day and lived to 102: http://www.wrf.org/news/news0007.htm OK, back to work now.
