" Lifespan increased sixfold: study

Scientists in the U.S. have discovered how to extend the normal

lifespan of roundworms by a record six times - the equivalent of a

human living for five centuries, a new research report says.

The striking result - the longest mean life-span extension ever

produced in any organism - was achieved simply by altering the

activity of a small number of genes and reproductive tissues in a

nematode, a team led by Dr Nuno Arantes-Oliveira of the University of

California, San Francisco, report today in the journal Science.
