Does a meal have to be grain based?

Hi, all

I remember reading something in the anti-aging plan that your meal

should contain grains (rice, wheat, millet, etc). Does anyone

remember anystatement like that?

Should we make our meal plan around grains or do we not need to

contain grains in our diet?

IMHO yes! Moderation, moderation, moderation. That means you should NOT

eliminate a whole food group. As said on this board many times, we are just

learning the science of nutrition - we've probably just scratched the

surface - and we don't know all the benefits of the different foods. Or

perhaps combinations of foods. Eliminate a whole food group and you never

know what valuable nutrients you're not getting.

So cut back, if you must, on grains - but don't eliminate ANY whole group of

foods entirely.

BTW grains are rich in Vit E. And just yesterday a posting discussed how

Vits E & C prevents Alzheimers. Although supplements are available, they

may not be the same as getting the nutrients from nature!

This does not mean a meal has to be GRAIN-BASED (what you've made as the

subject of your query) which is a whole different ball game. Nobody is

saying that.

Many statments are made. I, personally, don't see a strong need for grains,

and generally avoid them; however, whole grain intake has been associated

with better health and longevity in some epidemiolgical studies.
