It won't hurt you. You could try letting it sit for more hours, until you can feel it is not gritty, or take it in some mashed up veggies. I haven't continued to experiment with it. I found apple cider vinegar (Bragg's) dissolves it better but it tastes awful compared to lemon juice. I'll try more experiments and see if we can get it to dissolve totally. I'll let you know. Guest guest
Ok, this is probably a really dumb question but thought I would ask anyway. Since I get my eggs from my own chooks, the egg shells quite often have bits of crusted on chook poo on them. Sometimes even some dried blood (not sure which one of my chooks has a sore 'bottom'! LOL). Yes, I know, gross! Well, it kind of makes me wonder what the commercial mobs do to clean the egg shells so well. Before I start making the egg shell calcium concoction, I was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions as to how to clean the egg shells? Water doesn't seem to get them clean and I don't want to use a chemical cleaning product. Any ideas? Anyone out there who has their own chooks and has made the egg shell concoction? Thanks for any advice. Jen
Guest guest
It has taken me a year on the diet, but I have recently begun regularly taking eggshell calcium and magnesium before bed. My routine has been to mix 1/2 teaspoon powdered eggshell with lemon at around 6:00 and then take it before bed 3 hrs later at 9:00 along with 400 mg Natural Calm Magnesium Citrate. First, would it be OK to mix the eggshell and lemon together in the morning and let it sit throughout the day? I routinely make my electrolyte drink in the morning and so lemon is already in us, also it would save me having to remember my calcium in the early evening. Second, is it alright to take my calcium and magnesium apart from a meal? I usually eat some butter with it or maybe a couple olives or nuts, but does it need more food to digest well? Thanks for the help,

Yes, you can make up enough of the eggshell and lemon mixture to last you 3-4 days. It keeps okay in the fridge. I've done it, and it's fine! With the lemon it doesn't go moldy very easily. Leaving the mixture sit longer makes it better too. I've experimented a lot with this. > I routinely make my electrolyte drink in the morning and so lemon is already in us, also it would save me having to remember my calcium in the early evening. The calcium may cause a bit of an upset stomach but sipping on a little baking soda mixed in water alleviates it easily - mix 1/4 tsp in 4 ounces of water and only sip it long enough to relieve the upset). Some people take their 2nd dose of cal/mag 1/2 before bedtime, without food, to help them sleep better, and that's okay too. You are right to have some fats with cal/mag because the fats help absorption. Are you asking whether you could take the eggshell without letting it sit in lemon juice with your electrolyte drink in the morning ? I do not believe I understand your question.
