Guest guest
Hi All, I just tripped across the below of interest to at least me regarding nutrional courses. http://www.bmb.leeds.ac.uk/illingworth/icu3/index.htm = University of Leeds nutrition lectures. http://www.bmb.leeds.ac.uk/teaching/icu3/lecture/24/index.htm To achieve a sustained weight loss for medical or cosmetic reasons it is normally recommended that people should eat a low-fat, high-starch, physically bulky diet, rich in fresh fruit, green vegetables and unrefined carbohydrates, and that their total energy consumption should be slightly less than before. This diet should be supplemented by an exercise program to increase energy demand, leading to a gradual weight loss over several months. Crash diets should be avoided because they chiefly affect body water content, rather than fat. They may also promote muscle catabolism for gluconeogenesis. The altered lifestyle must be maintained indefinitely: if the person ceases to control their food intake then most of the missing fat will be rapidly replaced. We will now examine the reasons for this: Cheers, Alan Pater, PhD; 4849 Swanson St., Port Alberni, BC, V9Y 6M7; phone 250 724-0596
