That may be true, but why are my friends who are heavy smokers dying of

lung cancer? French fries may be bad, but I don't see how this makes

cigarettes any better, given its addictive nature. In November, I lost

a good friend I had known since we were teen-agers. He smoked 3 packs a

day and died at the age of 59 after battling lung cancer for 10 years.

I don't know too many people who just smoke one or two cigarettes a

day. To the contrary, the smokers I know are heavy smokers, with their

gums, teeth and mouth in awful condition, not to mention their frequent

coughing and frequent bouts with respiratory illnesses. Smokers' breath

smells awful and being kissed by a smoker is like coming in close

contact with an ash tray. Another consideration: the pesticides they

use on the plants are terrible.

Agreed. :) I smoked for 18 years, most of that time 1 pack per day.

I quit back in 2001. I know many people who quit and years later died

of lung cancer. I'm sure all the pesticides and chemicals are horrible

for our bodies. Another piece of evidence that tobacco causes cancer

directly is those who chew or dip tobacco in thier mouths who end up

getting cancer specifically in the mouth, jaw or throat as a result.

Just one of the many reasons I'm doing this diet is to detoxify, and to

rebuild each of my organs and cells with GOOD things. I know it will

take years, but I believe it's worth it!

==>The point IS that foods/nutrients go into making the body's cells,

and french fries contain " bad " fats that do more damage than

smoking. The reason is, all of the body's cell membranes need to be

made out of 50% saturated fats (the lungs need 100%). However when

the person consumes " bad " fats the body incorporates them into making

cell membranes, which makes them weak and more susceptible to toxins

(like smoke) and less able to get rid of waste products from inside

the cells.

==>Since the government, medicine, etc. lump saturated fats with

trans-fats as equally damaging, most people are not consuming good

fats their bodies require. There are just as many people who don't

smoke getting lung cancer so the statistics are being twisted, making

us believe it's mainly smokers that get lung cancer, which isn't

true. The true cause of lung cancer is " lack of saturated fats "

along with poor nutrition.

==>Smoking certainly isn't good for anyone, but getting the nutrients

the body needs to keep healthy and eliminating damaging foods is more

important!

The best, Bee

If you google " lung cancer non-smokers " , the first two on the list,

medicine.net and ABC news both state that 10% of those with lung cancer

are non-smokers, therefore 90% of those with lung cancer are smokers. I

don't doubt the importance of good fats and a good diet, but they need

to go hand in hand with other behaviors, like not smoking, for ideal

health.

Yes, I am down on smoking. I hate having to inhale someone else's stale

cigarette smoke from their exhalation when they are close to me,

sometimes unavoidable, and I hate losing friends to lung cancer.

Hi Kathleen...if the above 2 sources you list are accurate, the other

90% with lung cancer are not necessarily smokers. There are many whose

cancer spreads to the lungs from another primary site & also those who

contract lung cancer from sources other than tobacco. Honest. Susie

Kathleen, I'm the opposite. I love the smell of smoke on my guy. :)

My father died of lung cancer long after he stopped smoking. It was not his

smoking that killed him. My father remarried and she always feed him deep fat

fried foods cooked in canola oil. :( When he lived alone he was healthy eating

roasted meats.

I personally got emphysema *after* I quit smoking! I tried moving, cutting out

the use of chemicals, wearing natural fibers, exercise and all the drugs the

doctors would give me. I only got well after going on Bee's diet.

Im with you fwiw...when I was very sick ....second hand cigarette smoke really

knocked me around ,,,..even now it dosent agree with me but nowhere as bad as

before .

I used to go to the nearby surfbeach to get fresh air when I was ill.... & some

obliging smoker would come & light up directly upwind of me ...lol.

All the smoking bans in public places around the world lately is one of the

best ideas governments have come up with as far as I'm concerned.
