Guest guest
----- Original Message ----- From: Hello!I have a question about Blood Glucose Meters foranyone out there using this type of product or knowinganything about them. First some background, I aminterested in buying one for home use as although Ihave been practicing ON for 20 years and CR for thepast 2 years... I am still borderline diabetic. (Thank you genetics!)I have never been overweight and currently have a BMIof 19 so genetic influence from my mother really isthe only indication I have for finding the source ofthis. I might add that my mom is now 83 years old andjust began taking oral medication for her blood sugarone year ago... I feel like I may not be that luckythough!Anyway, I have searched online and there are so manytypes of meters out there I am just confusing myself. I'd like something of course easy to use, accurate, and moderately priced. If I can monitor myself I canadjust my food intake accordingly. I've cut down onall the starchy carbs and have been eating fairly lowcarb for the past 6 months but my readings haven'tchanged very much yet. I don't really like cuttingout entire food groups so with monitoring I can add ortake away those foods that cause the most problems.Any advise on any of this dilemma I would soappreciate! My health is excellent (45 yo) except forthis, and yes I have added cinnamon to my daily dietbased on previous messages to the group concerning ithelping to lower blood sugar.Thank you all so much! ***************************************************************************************** Hi . I just bought a FreeStyle (by TheraSense) from Wal-Mart and I'm quite happy with it. I got that one because its newer technology permits blood to be drawn from sites other than the finger tips. It cost me $24 after the $40 rebate which I'm waiting for (I just bought it last weekend). I had never used one before and had no trouble getting good readings the first time I used it. That's not because I'm smart, it's because the FreeStyle is well designed and simple to use. The $64 ($24 after rebate) includes everything you need to get started. The test strips cost about $.50 apiece thru The lancets are about $.10 apiece. I don't have diabetes, I'm just interested in keeping track of glucose levels and the meters are so cheap and easy to use there's really no reason not to indulge one's curiosity..and maybe even improve the diet with respect to avoiding glucose spikes and lowering levels in general. If you haven't already, you may want to experiment with Metformin (Glucophage). The generic variety (Metforal) can be had from offshore sources without prescription for about $.25/500mg pill.
