Guest guest
I have had good success in all areas of health including evening out of immunity through sugar and starch reduction. This may sound crazy as well....but I don't give in to the first signs of colds or flu...and I continue to exercise at a milder pace if I feel something is coming on. This seems to work for me. I also take zinc or eat eggs which have zinc in them if I feel I am coming down with a cold. Haven't had a cold in a very long time though, and I still am around children quite a bit. Guest guest
CRON will build immunity. Give it time. I remember being very dissappointed when I caught a bad cold 3 months into CRON. I haven't had one since. In the meantime what works very well are zinc lozenges (take when you first feel a cold coming on) and roasted garlic cloves (roast for a minute or less in the microwave. Zinc lozenges are now being recognized by the medical community and were recently recommended in an article in Parade magazine by the doc who writes for them. Eat up to a whole head of roasted garlic if you feel a cold/flu coming on . Works for my husband (who is not a CRONIE) every time. He has gained a whole new respect for me. on 2/3/2004 11:47 AM, bernadettepawlik at bernadettepawlik@... wrote: > Anyone have any nutritional advice on how to build immunity? Guest guest
Do I hear you loud and clear on this!!!!!! I've been taking care of my grandchildren while Mom goes back to school and have the same problem. I've also moved to a new location, CA to Wash. state and that change is part of it as my body adjusts physically. I personally feel that getting a good night's sleep is a big key. Also eating a lot of good veggies, fruits and exercise. It is mainly how to incorporate all of this into everything else that needs to be done ...... Oh well, back to the drawing board and wash those hands ...... both the toddler's and yours. ----- Ruth From: " bernadettepawlik " <bernadettepawlik@...> Reply- Date: Tue, 03 Feb 2004 16:47:10 -0000 Subject: [ ] Building Immunity Anyone have any nutritional advice on how to build immunity? Guest guest
While my personal experience is anecdotal, I believe I have experienced benefit from swallowing a few cloves of raw garlic (finely chopped) at the first hint of elevated body temperature and/or congestion (fever?). This typically prevents any following malaise. In my experience elevated temperature returns to normal within a day or so. I do not avoid aerobic exercise even when suspicious of possible imminent illness, under the premise that elevated body temperature from exercise will complement the body's fever mechanism. I have tried zinc and years ago even tried Echinacea with no apparent effect. In general it's probably worth increasing general vitamin dosage if you suspect your body is under attack. Likewise stress is reported to negatively impact immune function (among other things), but by the time you're sick it's probably too late. Work to manage stress at all times. I repeat this is very unscientific, and I may be just be me reporting success against imagined infectious attacks... YMMV JR PS.. wash your hands often, and if in SE Asia avoid sick poultry.... -----Original Message----- From: Francesca Skelton [mailto:fskelton@...] Sent: Tuesday, February 03, 2004 11:00 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Building Immunity CRON will build immunity. Guest guest
We noticed after our gson started school, we and his parents tended to get a variety of stuff. When I'm there and someone's sick I grab a glass of red wine, and squeeze half lemon in my coffee. It seems visiting a gchild is always hazardous. In fact, I'm gonna have a glass before I GO there next. And lemon has become routine this fall and winter. Regards. ----- Original Message ----- From: bernadettepawlik Sent: Tuesday, February 03, 2004 10:47 AM Subject: [ ] Building Immunity Anyone have any nutritional advice on how to build immunity? Garlic, as has been mentioned. Non-nutritional: meditation, adequate sleep, regular exercise, positive mental attitude. Also, a low fat diet and CR appear to tune the immune system most. Guest guest
Hi folks: Regarding garlic, I believe the Iowa Women's Health Study found that the food product most clearly linked to preventing colon cancer was garlic. I do not remember whether it made a difference if it was cooked or raw. But I have seen it reported that garlic tablets had no such effect - if correct then presumably that might also be expected to apply to garlic powder. So it maybe is a good idea to take some 'real' garlic occasionally even if you do not feel an infection coming on. Rodney. > CRON will build immunity. Give it time.
